Gettysburg College invites applications for a full-time faculty position as Visiting Assistant Professor in Data Science beginning with the Fall 2026 semester. This is a full-time, term appointment for one academic year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based on satisfactory performance and institutional need. The successful applicant will have the chance to help shape the recently formed interdisciplinary Data Science minor at the college and participate in the development of a major in the discipline. Gettysburg College is a highly selective liberal arts college located within 90 minutes of the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area. Established in 1832, the College has a rich history and is situated on a 220-acre campus with an enrollment of approximately 2,200 students.
Qualifications
This position will teach the equivalent of six courses during the academic year. The core teaching responsibilities will be a two-course sequence (DS 256 and DS 325) in Python programming for Data Science, aimed at students from a variety of academic backgrounds. Depending on the qualifications and interests of the person hired, the teaching assignment might also include elective courses in related areas such as statistics, machine learning, cultural analytics, or data ethics. It is preferred that candidates hold a PhD by the August 2026 appointment date (master's degree holders may be considered for appointment as Visiting Instructor). We welcome applications from candidates whose background is in any field, with preference for those with formal coursework and/or teaching experience in data science, machine learning, and quantitative analytic methods.
