Data QA Engineer
Data quality isn't just a checkbox-it's the foundation of every smart business decision. Our client is building something meaningful: a data environment where accuracy is non-negotiable and the people who protect it are valued. As a Data QA Engineer, you'll be at the center of that mission-designing and building the automated testing frameworks that keep data pipelines clean, reliable, and trustworthy. If you're the kind of engineer who loves digging into data discrepancies, writing elegant SQL, and creating structure where there wasn't any before, this is the role you've been looking for.
As part of our process after applying, you may receive an invitation from our AI Recruiter Avery for a short conversation that lets you share more about your background beyond your resume. For questions, contact
- Compensation: This job is expected to pay about $100,000 - $130,000
- No Visa Sponsorship Available for this role
What You'll Do:
- Build automated data testing frameworks from scratch, including test plans, validation logic, regression suites, and data observability checks across ETL/ELT pipelines and BI outputs.
- Write and optimize SQL queries to validate row counts, uniqueness, referential integrity, business rules, and source-to-target reconciliation.
- Investigate data discrepancies-trace issues from reports back to source systems, file detailed defect reports, and partner with engineering to validate fixes.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and manage scheduled test runs to enforce data quality gates across deployments.
- Mentor team members on data testing best practices and take ownership of high-impact QA initiatives that raise the bar for data reliability.
What Gets You the Job:
- Expert-level SQL skills with hands-on experience writing complex queries for data validation, reconciliation, and pipeline testing-this is the most critical requirement.
- Proven ability to build automated data testing frameworks from the ground up using tools such as Great Expectations, dbt tests, or similar-not just working within existing ones.
- Python proficiency sufficient for scripting automation, building test utilities, and integrating with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Git).
- Background in data QA, ETL testing, data validation, or data engineering-not traditional UI/front-end QA.
- Strong analytical communication skills with the ability to investigate messy data, identify root causes, and make a clear case to engineering teams, business stakeholders, or vendors.
