Role Overview
The Software Engineer Contractor supports the technology team by maintaining, upgrading, and building the infrastructure and applications that drive enterprise business operations. Working as an individual contributor within a cross-functional Agile squad, this role is responsible for building custom applications and creating robust integrations with third-party vendor platforms (such as Charles River Development IMS/OMS and SimCorp Dimension). The technical environment features a combination of mature, on-premises applications alongside modern, cloud-based architectures.
Key Responsibilities
Application Development & Engineering

• Design, develop, and maintain clean, well-formed, and easy-to-maintain code in alignment with enterprise software development best practices.
• Build, configure, and optimize custom applications and integrations to support core business units (such as Portfolio Management, Operations, Trading, and Compliance).
• Author thorough unit tests to ensure sufficient automated test coverage and system resilience prior to deployment.
• Conduct and participate in technical peer reviews to ensure code quality, compliance, and architectural alignment.
Third-Party Integrations & Cloud Modernization
• Create, optimize, and support robust data integrations with third-party vendor platforms, including Charles River Development (CRD) IMS/OMS and SimCorp Dimension (SCD).
• Support cloud migration efforts, transitioning legacy on-premises applications to modern, scalable cloud environments.
• Write efficient and performant SQL queries to manage, retrieve, structure, and store transactional financial data.
Squad Collaboration & Governance
• Collaborate actively with cross-functional squad members (including Squad Leads, Business Analysts, Quality Engineers, and peer developers) and business stakeholders.
• Adhere to information security guidelines and contribute actively to the organization's engineering standards library.
• Provide technical estimates, status updates, and participate in scheduled Agile/Scrum ceremonies.
Required Qualifications
• 4 or more years of professional experience as a software engineer.
• Professional proficiency in backend software development using Java and/or Python (or other widely adopted backend programming languages).
• Strong experience writing, optimizing, and executing SQL to retrieve, store, and manipulate data.
• Working knowledge of cloud architecture principles, preferably within Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Hands-on experience working in Linux operating system environments.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, or a related technical field.
• Professional exposure to financial services, investment systems, and/or asset management domains.
• Direct experience configuring or developing integrations with Charles River Development (CRD) IMS/OMS platforms.
• Familiarity with SnapLogic or other enterprise-level ETL and workflow orchestration tools.
• Front-end development experience writing user interfaces using Vue.js or similar JavaScript-based frameworks.
• Experience supporting cloud migration projects from legacy, on-premises architectures to cloud-native platforms.
