Full-time

Job description

About the role
The Business Intelligence Developer owns our data platform end to end, from POS source system ingestion through Microsoft Fabric to the Power BI dashboards our teams use every day. This role is the data and analytics subject matter expert on the IT team and works closely with the Revenue Manager and Finance to turn raw ticketing and point-of-sale data from multiple POS systems into reporting the business can rely on. As the only IT team member based at this location, the role also handles occasional Level 1 IT tasks that need to be done in person (no more than about four hours per week) and works a hybrid schedule, with on-site attendance expected when required. Early priorities include stabilizing core pipelines, closing data quality gaps, and building a clean, well-documented gold layer that business teams can build their reporting on.
Compensation:
  • 105kUSD/annually
  • Extended Benefits
  • Short Term Incentive Program

What you'll do
  • Design, build, and maintain Azure Data Factory pipelines that ingest data from multiple POS systems into Microsoft Fabric, including incremental loads, error handling, and data quality checks
  • Architect and manage the Fabric lakehouse/warehouse (bronze, silver, and gold layers) and handle platform administration: capacity and cost management, gateway configuration, workspace security, and monitoring and alerting for pipeline failures and data freshness
  • Own the database estate end to end, including a small on-premises SQL Server footprint supporting in-house applications: backups and recovery, patching and upgrades, performance tuning, security and access, and other database needs as they arise
  • Design star schemas and semantic models and write DAX measures for core business metrics such as attendance, admissions revenue, per capita spending, and operational KPIs
  • Work directly with business teams to understand what they need, then design and build Power BI dashboards with them for complex or high-visibility use cases; administer the Power BI service: workspaces, refreshes, row-level security, and app distribution
  • Partner with the Revenue Manager, Finance, and other stakeholders to translate reporting needs into well-structured, reusable data solutions, and support self-service BI and end-user enablement
  • Serve as the data and analytics SME within the IT team: define data standards and documentation, share knowledge with peers, and evaluate new Fabric capabilities as the platform evolves
  • As the only IT team member on site at this location, handle Level 1 tasks that need to be done in person (hardware setup and swaps, printer and peripheral issues, hands-on troubleshooting), up to about 4 hours per week; remote support is handled by the team in Vancouver
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Strong SQL skills: complex joins, window functions, CTEs, performance tuning
  • Intermediate to advanced DAX: time intelligence, filter context, iterator functions
  • Power BI semantic modeling (star schemas, relationships, import vs. DirectQuery/Direct Lake trade-offs), report development, and service administration
  • Able to translate stakeholder reporting needs into clear, actionable reporting
  • Self-directed: comfortable owning a domain and setting priorities with minimal oversight while collaborating across a cross-functional IT team
  • Comfortable handling occasional hands-on Level 1 IT tasks, such as desktop, printer, and peripheral troubleshooting, with a customer service mindset

Education & Experience
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

IDEAL EXPERIENCE: You won't need every item on this list. If you meet most of it, we encourage you to apply.
  • 5+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a combined BI/engineering role, including time owning pipelines or a data platform end to end
  • Hands-on Azure Data Factory experience: pipeline design, copy activities, data flows, triggers, parameterization
  • Microsoft Fabric (lakehouse, warehouse, or both), or a strong background in related Microsoft data technologies (Synapse, Azure SQL, SSAS) with willingness to go deep on Fabric
  • SQL Server administration for on-premises workloads: backup and recovery, patching and upgrades, instance and security configuration, and performance troubleshooting
  • Experience working with transactional data from ticketing or POS systems
  • Preferred: Python/PySpark; integrating multiple source systems with differing data models; attraction and visitor metrics (attendance and admissions revenue, per capita spending, advance bookings and booking pace, capacity utilization and yield); Git/version control; Fabric Data Activator, notebooks, or real-time analytics; small-team background wearing multiple hats
