What is a part-time python developer?

Python Developer Part Time jobs involve working with the Python programming language to build, maintain, or enhance software applications, but on a part-time basis. This means the developer typically works fewer hours than a full-time role, often ranging from 10 to 30 hours per week. Part-time Python developers may handle tasks like writing code, debugging, developing scripts, or integrating APIs, depending on the employer's needs. These roles are common in startups, remote teams, or companies with flexible work arrangements. The flexibility allows professionals to balance other commitments while contributing technical expertise.

What does a part-time python developer do?

Python is a programming language used for data analysis and visualization. Some of your responsibilities as a part-time Python developer are to write scalable and effective code, develop an application using user-facing elements, test and debug computer programs, and create backend components to improve performance and responsiveness. Your other duties include working within the existing framework to ensure that software fits the client’s needs, implementing data protection and security solutions, examining current systems to determine where improvements could be beneficial, and prioritizing and assessing feature requests to determine if these are feasible and something that you can implement.

To thrive as a Python Developer Part Time, you need strong programming skills in Python, experience with frameworks like Django or Flask, and a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, and cloud platforms is typically required. Effective time management, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills are essential soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities ensure you can efficiently deliver reliable code, collaborate with teams remotely, and adapt to project requirements in a flexible work environment.

Job description

San Francisco (Hybrid) | Part-time or Full-time, 3 months, with potential to convert
About RocketRide.ai
RocketRide is an SF-based AI startup pushing the boundaries of open source agentic workflows - helping developers build smarter systems that work for them. Our meta-harness connects automation, AI, and open collaboration into something fast, flexible, and deeply useful.
About This Role
We're searching for an AI Developer Intern for the fall term (mid-Sep through mid-Dec), who is technical, curious, and ready to get their hands dirty building real AI features. You'll collaborate closely with our engineering team to design, build, and ship AI-powered capabilities, from agentic workflows and LLM integrations to data pipelines and developer tooling. This is a meaningful role with real impact: the code you write will commit to open source and deploy to production, shaping how developers use RocketRide.
What You'll Do
  • Design, build, test, and deploy AI software components including vision models, LLM integrations, agentic workflows, multimodal data pipelines, and similarity search.

  • Leverage agentic AI code-generation tools to move fast without sacrificing code quality or reliability.

  • Gain hands-on experience with open-source and proprietary AI tools, including agent frameworks like OpenClaw and CrewAI, graph databases like neo4j, agent skills, MCP and Cursor.

  • Contribute to our open-source projects and help grow our developer community through Discord, online developer forums, and technical content. Assist with local AI tech events and community meetups.

  • Collaborate with engineering, DevRel, and founders to ensure our systems support how real developers adopt and scale agentic AI in production.

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with a strong interest in Generative AI and/or Machine Learning.

  • Hands-on software experience - you write solid code, build demos, and can engage credibly with developers at a technical level.

  • Fluency with modern AI tools and a love of experimenting with them to solve real-world problems.

  • Demonstrable understanding of LLMs, generative AI applications, and agentic AI concepts.

  • Public contributions you're proud of - a GitHub project, personal site, plugin, or technical content.

  • Familiarity with Python; exposure to C++ is a plus.

  • Ability to work from our San Francisco office regularly (at least 3 days/week).

Why You'll Love This
  • Impact: At our size and pace, the code you write moves the needle. You'll ship to production, not just a sandbox.

  • Experience: Hands-on work with cutting-edge agentic AI tools, frameworks, and infrastructure - the real stack, not toy projects.

  • Growth: We challenge ourselves every day to be better and go faster. You'll learn through collaboration, tech talks, and direct mentorship from experienced engineers and founders.

  • Community: Build your network within SF's AI developer scene and connect with our growing open source community.

  • Culture: Hybrid office/remote flexibility, fun outings, great downtown SF location, and a tight-knit team that takes the work seriously but has fun doing it.

  • Path forward: Strong interns have the opportunity to convert to a full-time role.
