Job description

Our Snowflake Engineer will be a leading technical expert responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing scalable and high-performance data solutions on the Snowflake Data Cloud. This role requires deep, practical experience across all aspects of the Snowflake platform, including architecture, performance tuning, data modeling, and security. You will play a crucial role in building, maintaining, and automating enterprise-level data pipelines and warehouses to support our business intelligence and analytical needs.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design:

  • Design and build scalable, secure, and cost-effective data solutions using Snowflake's architecture, including virtual warehouses, databases, and schemas.

Implementation & Development:

  • Develop and optimize complex SQL, Python, and other code for ELT/ETL processes to load, transform, and manage data within the Snowflake environment.

  • Implement data pipelines using Snowflake features like Snowpipe, Streams, and Tasks, along with orchestration tools like dbt or Airflow.

Performance Optimization:

  • Serve as a Snowflake authority, guiding performance tuning, cost optimization, and workload management.

  • Monitor and fix query performance, analyze execution plans, and implement solutions to ensure efficient data processing.

Data Governance & Security:

  • Implement robust data governance and security measures, such as role-based access control (RBAC), data masking, and encryption.

  • Ensure data solutions align with all relevant regulations and standards, like HIPAA and GDPR.

Automation & CI/CD:

  • Automate essential data processes and deployment workflows using CI/CD pipelines, Git-based version control, and scripting languages.

  • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, like Terraform, to manage and automate Snowflake infrastructure deployment.

Collaboration & Mentorship:

  • Collaborate with data engineers, architects, data scientists, and business partners to define requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.

  • Mentor other engineers and support collaboration within the team, setting and promoting data engineering standards and proven methods.

Documentation:

  • Fully document all solution work, including designs, configurations, and data lineage.

Required Qualifications

Location: this position has preference to based in hybrid work location (onsite at Meridian Idaho campus and WFH). There may be opportunity for fully remote within a mutually acceptable location.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field; or equivalent practical experience (two years' relevant work experience is equivalent to one-year college).

Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or a similar role, preferably in healthcare. Experience should also span:

  • 2-3+ years of hands-on experience demonstrating skills with Snowflake, including advanced features like Zero Copy Cloning and Time Travel.

  • Deep expertise in SQL, data modeling techniques (dimensional modeling, data vault), and ELT concepts.

  • Strong proficiency in Python for scripting and automation, as well as experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

  • Demonstrable experience with data pipeline orchestration tools such as dbt, Airflow, or Fivetran.

  • Experience with DevOps principles and CI/CD standard processes.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a diligent approach.

  • Have, or willing to obtain, SnowPro Core Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in leveraging AI-Driven Development; using Snowflake Cortex AI, Cortex Code, and Snowpark to accelerate the development lifecycle-automating SQL generation, optimizing complex queries, and speeding up data transformation tasks.

  • Experience in implementing Modern, Intelligent Workflows; adopting AI-native tools like Cortex Search, Notebooks, and Streamlit to build agentic, AI-powered applications, reducing manual engineering effort and improving productivity.

  • Advanced Snowflake certifications (e.g., SnowPro Advanced Architect)

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range is $96,183 to $144,275 as Engineer II; $118,506 to $177,758 as Engineer III. The position is eligible for an annual incentive bonus (variable depending on company and employee performance). The pay range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, travel requirements, internal equity, business or organizational needs, and alignment with market data. At Blue Cross of Idaho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for the position. Compensation decisions are dependent on factors and circumstances at the time of offer.
