Summary:

The Systems Biology Staff Scientist leads and supports research efforts analyzing high-dimensional omics datasets to uncover molecular and immunological mechanisms underlying infectious diseases. Supports systems biology studies on host-pathogen interactions, leveraging omics data to understand mechanisms of infection and immunity. 


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct integrative analyses using transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data. 
  • Design and execute experiments investigating host response to infection. 
  • Collaborate with bioinformaticians and lab scientists. 
  • Develop visualizations and models for biological pathways. 
  • Publish findings and present to stakeholders. 
  • The contractor will be expected to execute their assigned tasks, and to share their findings with other members of the project team.  
  • The Contractor is expected to write reports and publications, and present their findings in meetings.  

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with R, Python, or MATLAB. 
  • Understanding of immunological and molecular biology concepts. 
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams. 
  • Shall be knowledgeable in a relevant field of the life sciences and have desired experience working in a research laboratory.  
  • Have demonstrated their subject matter expertise in at least one area, and their ability to conduct independent research through publication of several technical reports and/or peer-reviewed publications.  
  • Possesses good written and oral communication skills.   

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems biology, computational biology, or related field. 
  • Minimum 4+ years in systems biology, computational biology, or related discipline. 
  • Experience with large biological datasets and statistical modeling. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified information, is required. 
  • Enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ACTIVE SECRET is preferred 
  • Master's or Ph.D. preferred. 

Pay and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $153,000 annually.
