How much do python biology jobs pay per hour?
What is the difference between Python Biology vs Bioinformatics Analyst?
| Aspect | Python Biology | Bioinformatics Analyst |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Biology degree, Python programming skills | Biology or related degree, Python and data analysis skills |
| Work Environment | Research labs, biotech companies, academic institutions | Research institutions, biotech firms, healthcare organizations |
| Industry Usage | Data analysis, modeling biological systems using Python | Analyzing biological data, developing pipelines, interpreting results |
Python Biology focuses on applying Python programming to biological research, often emphasizing coding and data modeling. Bioinformatics Analysts combine biological knowledge with data analysis skills, including Python, to interpret complex biological datasets. Both roles require programming skills and work in similar environments, but Python Biology is more research and development-oriented, while Bioinformatics Analysts focus on data interpretation and analysis.

Benefits Eligible

Position Summary
We are seeking a Research Assistant Professor to join a collaborative team from UNM, conducting research on ecosystem-atmosphere exchange of carbon, water and energy in semi-arid ecosystems. Our group operates a network of nine eddy covariance flux towers sites distributed across a 1500 m elevation gradient in New Mexico (New Mexico Elevation Gradient or NMEG) that has measured ecosystem-atmosphere fluxes and associated physiological processes continuously for 18 years. We are installing a new tower in a riparian cottonwood forest and are seeking a candidate to process fluxes from this tower and develop research questions that use this tower, previous datasets from riparian towers in the region and the NMEG that examine how fluxes and processes in these rapidly changing biomes are responding to disturbance and climate change. The successful candidate will work with PI Marcy Litvak (UNM), and collaborate with a number of PIs across the Sevilleta LTER. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, and demonstrate a record of experience and research productivity in one or more of the following areas: (i) EC flux tower or other land-surface flux datasets; (ii) physiological, ecosystem, ecohydrology, biometeorology or landscape ecology with an emphasis on analyzing large datasets; (iii) ecosystem modeling, particularly in water-limited environments. The position is available for one year initially, with possibility of 4 additional years of funding.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D., at time of appointment, in Plant Physiological Ecology, Ecosystem Ecology, Earth System Science, Forest Hydrology, or a related field is preferred
- Demonstrated programming expertise in Matlab, R and/or Python.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and understanding of plant physiological processes, soil moisture dynamics, experience measuring sap flux, soil water dynamics, and/or plant function
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a collaborative team with other researchers.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
Application Instructions
Only applications submitted through the official UNMJobs site will be accepted. If you are viewing this job advertisement on a 3rd party site, please visit UNMJobs to submit an application.
Please attach current CV with application, along with any other relevant documentation.
