Job description

Location: Remote
Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance required
Employment Type: Full-Time (W-2)
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required
IntelliTech is seeking a Tech Lead / Full-Stack Engineer to serve as the technical anchor on a high-visibility Department of War program focused on operationalizing a Government-owned digital twin application for ammunition industrial base readiness. This role will lead the modernization of an existing Python / React web application from a single-host prototype into a production-aligned, containerized platform deployed in an Army cloud environment.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. The ideal candidate will write production code daily, own architecture decisions, drive sprint execution, and serve as a primary technical interface with Government stakeholders. This individual will work closely with other senior engineers across data/AI and platform/DevSecOps functions on a lean team where every engineer is expected to ship high-quality production code.Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
  • Own overall application architecture and drive technical decisions across frontend, backend, simulation, and data tiers.
  • Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical prioritization in coordination with project leadership.
  • Conduct code reviews and enforce standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and maintainability.
  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for Government engineering and product stakeholders.
  • Translate Government requirements and mission context into actionable engineering tasks and solution designs.

Backend Development
  • Modernize and extend a Python FastAPI backend serving as the application control plane for data operations, scenario lifecycle management, and AI orchestration.
  • Decouple the SimPy discrete-event simulation engine from the API tier into independently scalable worker containers.
  • Design and implement run request queueing, worker orchestration, and result persistence patterns.
  • Build governed ingestion workflows, including validation services for schema enforcement, referential integrity, circular reference detection, and business-rule validation with actionable user-facing feedback.
  • Implement dataset versioning, lineage tracking, and run-level traceability linking scenario outputs to explicit input versions.
  • Build version-bounded caching strategies for validated inputs, run-ready artifacts, and comparison outputs.
  • Implement deterministic scenario comparison logic and brief-ready report generation.

Frontend Development
  • Extend and maintain a React / TypeScript frontend using Material UI, Recharts, and data-grid-based visualizations.
  • Build user workflows for AI-assisted scenario Q&A, guided scenario generation with analyst review and approval, and brief-ready output presentation.
  • Implement upload validation feedback, dataset versioning interfaces, and scenario comparison views.
  • Integrate SSO and DoD CAC-compatible authentication flows into the frontend as required by the target environment.

AI Integration
  • Design and implement the AI integration layer brokering access between the application backend and a Government-approved hosted LLM endpoint.
  • Build scoped retrieval logic constraining AI context to approved run artifacts, simulation outputs, and post-processed metrics.
  • Implement guided scenario generation that converts user intent into structured JSON configurations for analyst review before execution.
  • Implement function-calling and tool-use patterns that enable the LLM to query live scenario data through backend APIs.
  • Ensure audit logging of AI interactions and enforcement of role-based access controls.

Integration and Quality
  • Instrument the application pipeline to capture timing, bottleneck, concurrency, and throughput metrics.
  • Design and execute integration testing across frontend, backend, database, object storage, cache, and worker services.
  • Benchmark throughput and performance improvements against established baselines.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline and 8+ years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in a related field and 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong hands-on Python backend development experience, including FastAPI or Flask, asynchronous patterns, REST API design, and data processing with Pandas and NumPy.
  • Strong React / TypeScript frontend development experience, including React 18+, component architecture, state management, and modern UI frameworks such as Material UI.
  • Experience with containerized architectures, including Docker and orchestration concepts such as Kubernetes, ECS, or EKS.
  • Experience with MongoDB or other document-oriented databases, including schema design, query optimization, and async drivers.
  • Experience integrating LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or equivalent platforms, including function calling, tool-use patterns, and prompt engineering for structured outputs.
  • Experience building and maintaining production-grade applications in cloud-based environments, preferably AWS.
  • Experience leading technical execution across multiple application layers in a complex engineering environment.
  • Experience supporting DoD or federal Government programs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SimPy or other discrete-event simulation frameworks.
  • Experience with defense supply chain, logistics, manufacturing, or industrial base mission domains.
  • Experience leading small engineering teams on Agile Government contracts.
  • Experience with Amazon DocumentDB, Redis / ElastiCache, Amazon S3, and Army or AWS cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with munitions industrial base concepts such as BOM structures, production lines, CAGE codes, and surge planning.
  • Experience building decision-support, simulation, or analytics applications for Government analysts.
  • Experience with Terraform, Helm, CI/CD pipelines, and production container deployment patterns.
  • Prior experience supporting Army logistics, manufacturing, or modernization programs.
Tech Stack
  • Backend: Python 3.11+, FastAPI, SimPy, Pandas, NumPy, Pandera, Motor (async MongoDB)
  • Frontend: React, TypeScript, Material UI, Zustand, Recharts, MUI X Data Grid
  • Database: MongoDB / Amazon DocumentDB
  • Cache: Redis / Amazon ElastiCache
  • Storage: Amazon S3
  • AI Integration: OpenAI API or Government-approved hosted LLM endpoint, function calling, scoped retrieval
  • Infrastructure: Docker, EKS / ECS, Helm, Terraform
  • CI/CD: GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Government-approved pipeline tooling
  • Authentication: CAC / SSO via SAML or OIDC
Interview Process
Video interview required and may include a technical assessment.
Candidates should be prepared to discuss:
  • systems or applications they have built from scratch across backend and frontend layers
  • their experience leading architecture and technical implementation decisions
  • how they have modernized or productionized prototype applications
  • their experience with Python, React, containerized deployment, and cloud-native architectures
  • their experience integrating AI capabilities into operational applications
  • their work with large-scale or mission-critical Government systems
