What is Python automation testing?

Python Automation Testing refers to the process of using Python programming language to write scripts that automatically test software applications. These scripts can validate functionality, performance, and reliability of software, reducing the need for manual testing and speeding up the development cycle. Python is popular for automation testing because of its readability, extensive libraries like Selenium and PyTest, and strong community support. Automation tests can be integrated into continuous integration pipelines to ensure consistent quality across software releases.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed for Python automation testing?

To thrive as a Python Automation Testing professional, you need strong proficiency in Python programming, knowledge of software testing methodologies, and experience with test automation frameworks, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as Selenium, PyTest, Jenkins, and version control systems like Git is typically required, along with certifications like ISTQB being advantageous. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help testers identify issues, collaborate with teams, and document findings clearly. These competencies ensure the creation of reliable, maintainable automated tests that improve software quality and streamline development cycles.

What are common challenges in Python automation testing, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in Python Automation Testing is maintaining test scripts as applications evolve, which can lead to flaky tests or outdated scripts. To address this, it's important to implement modular and reusable code, and regularly review and refactor test cases. Collaborating closely with developers and participating in code reviews can also help testers anticipate changes and adapt their tests proactively. Additionally, integrating robust reporting and logging mechanisms helps quickly identify and resolve issues, ensuring the reliability of the automated test suite.

What is the difference between Python Automation Testing vs Manual Software Testing?

AspectPython Automation TestingManual Software Testing
Required SkillsPython programming, automation tools, scriptingTest case execution, attention to detail, communication
Work EnvironmentAutomated testing frameworks, scripting environmentsTest labs, user environments, manual execution
Industry UsageSoftware development, QA teams, continuous integrationInitial testing phases, exploratory testing, user acceptance

Python Automation Testing involves writing scripts to automate test cases, increasing efficiency and repeatability. Manual Software Testing requires testers to execute test cases manually, focusing on exploratory and usability aspects. Both roles are essential in software quality assurance, but Python Automation Testing emphasizes automation skills, while manual testing emphasizes detailed test execution and observation.

Systems QA Engineer (Salesforce Focus)

Awardco

Lindon, UT • On-site

Full-time

Posted 25 days ago

Job description

Awardco is reimagining the workplace to be more rewarding, supportive, and fun for everyone. As one of the fastest-growing companies in the employee experience industry, our mission is to help employees love what they do, love where they work, and get recognized for their efforts-especially our own employees! And as winners of Glassdoor's Best Places to Work, Best in Brightest in the Nation, and Great Place to Work, we do much more than talk the talk.
We're looking for a Systems QA Engineer to build and own the QA discipline for our Systems Ops team. Today, quality checks happen - but they don't yet scale with how fast we're shipping changes across Salesforce and our broader systems ecosystem. You'll change that: building out automated test coverage, standing up repeatable QA processes, and becoming the person the team trusts to catch what would otherwise slip into production. You'll also play a key role in documentation and deployments, making sure releases are predictable, well-tested, and well-understood by the people who depend on them.
What you will do:
  • Own and mature the end-to-end QA process for Awardco's Systems Ops team, covering Salesforce, internal tools, and integrated business systems.
  • Design, write, and maintain automated test cases and regression suites that scale with the pace of change across our systems ecosystem - reducing reliance on manual, one-off testing.
  • Build out a QA framework and set of repeatable practices (test plans, coverage standards, regression cadences) that the broader team can adopt as we scale.
  • Partner closely with Business Systems Engineers and the Enterprise Systems Architect to test new features, configurations, and integrations before they reach production.
  • Perform both manual and automated testing across sandbox, staging, and production environments, including edge cases and cross-system integration points.
  • Document test plans, test cases, defects, and QA processes clearly enough that others on the team can run with them.
  • Support deployment and release management: help coordinate releases, manage and validate change sets/deployment pipelines, and confirm successful, issue-free deployments.
  • Identify gaps in existing test coverage and proactively recommend where automation or process changes would reduce risk.
  • Track, triage, and report defects, partnering with engineers through to resolution.
  • Contribute to integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines as our deployment process matures.
What you will bring:
  • 5+ years of experience in QA or test engineering, ideally within a Salesforce or business systems environment.
  • Hands-on experience writing automated test scripts or frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Provar, Copado, Gearset, Apex test classes, or similar).
  • Strong familiarity with Git-based version control, including GitHub and Bitbucket, with experience supporting branching strategies, code reviews, merge processes, and release management workflows.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce-specific testing tools and best practices is a strong plus.
  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and release/deployment management practices.
  • Experience creating clear test documentation, SOPs, and process artifacts that others can follow without you in the room.
  • Detail-oriented and process-minded, with a genuine ownership mentality over quality outcomes.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with engineers and architects, translating technical risk into plain language when needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have
  • Relevant Salesforce certifications.
  • Experience with CI/CD and release tooling (Copado, Gearset, Jenkins, or similar).
  • Scripting experience in JavaScript, Python, or Apex.

Why Awardco:
  • We have a revolutionary, client-approved product.
  • One of the fastest growing companies in the nation: 3x Inc. 500, 2x Deloitte Technology Fast 500, 2x Mountain West Capital Network Fast 100, 3x Fast 50 (Utah Business), and 3x UV50 Fastest Growing Companies (BusinessQ), to name just a few.
  • Great Place to Work certified, ranked in Inc. Best Workplaces, one of the Best and Brightest companies to work for, and ranked on the Salt Lake Tribune's Top Workplaces.
  • Backed by renowned investors, both local and national.
