JOB DESCRIPTION

Build Your Future at DTCC

As an Application Developer Intern in IT, you will help design, build, test, and enhance software applications that support DTCC’s business processes, technology operations, and critical financial market systems. This role is intended for students who want hands-on exposure to how modern software is delivered in a large enterprise IT organization. You may contribute to application enhancements, automation, API development, user interface improvements, data-driven solutions, testing, documentation, and production-readiness activities while learning how technology enables reliability, efficiency, resiliency, and business outcomes at DTCC.

At DTCC, interns contribute to meaningful work while learning how the financial markets operate behind the scenes. You will be part of a structured summer experience that combines team-based project work, training, feedback, mentorship, and opportunities to connect with leaders and peers.

About the Summer Internship Program

The Summer Internship Program is a 10-week experience designed to build a strong foundation for early-career talent. The program includes orientation, training, manager engagement, feedback milestones, networking, and development experiences that help students explore potential full-time career paths, including EDGE, our entry-level development program, where applicable.

What you will gain

  • Hands-on work connected to real business priorities, not only observation or administrative tasks.
  • Structured orientation and training to help you understand DTCC, the industry, and your business area.
  • Manager support, mentorship, peer connection, and opportunities to build your network.
  • Development experiences focused on communication, feedback, professional skills, and career readiness.
  • Mid-point and final feedback to help you understand your strengths, development areas, and potential next steps.
  • Exposure to DTCC culture, values, and community engagement.

What you will do

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, test, and document software applications, features, integrations, or reusable components under the guidance of experienced engineers, technical leads, and product teams.
  • Translate business and process needs into practical technology solutions by partnering with developers, business analysts, product owners, quality assurance teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Participate in application design discussions, code reviews, Agile ceremonies, backlog refinement, testing, and implementation activities to support secure, scalable, maintainable, and reliable software delivery.
  • Support automation and modernization opportunities that reduce manual effort, improve workflow efficiency, strengthen controls, and create better visibility into business or technology processes.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, defect resolution, root-cause analysis, technical documentation, and knowledge sharing to improve application quality and team effectiveness.
  • Learn and apply enterprise development practices, including secure coding, version control, DevSecOps concepts, testing discipline, application resiliency, change readiness, and production support awareness.
  • Research and experiment with emerging technologies, development tools, AI-enabled engineering practices, and industry best practices where appropriate to support innovation-focused projects and team initiatives.

What will help you succeed

Required

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems (MIS), or a related field.
  • Expected graduation date: Fall 2027 or Summer 2028
  • Minimum GPA: 3.2
  • Authorization to work permanently in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
  • Foundational understanding of programming, software development concepts, data structures, databases, web technologies, or application design through coursework, projects, or hands-on experience.

Preferred

  • Coursework, projects, prior internship, student organization, volunteer, or leadership experience involving software development, application delivery, data analysis, automation, testing, or technology-enabled business process improvement.
  • Interest in financial services technology and in understanding how applications support business processes, operational efficiency, risk management, resiliency, and enterprise-scale delivery.
  • Exposure to one or more programming languages or frameworks such as Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular, Spring Boot, .NET, SQL, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with development tools and practices such as Git, Bitbucket, Jira, Agile delivery, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, APIs, cloud platforms, or DevSecOps concepts.
  • Familiarity with modern development frameworks, cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift) would be a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, willingness to learn new technologies, ability to work through ambiguity, and comfort collaborating across business, product, engineering, testing, and operations teams.

What makes you successful

  • Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to ask questions.
  • Strong communication, organization, and follow-through.
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use feedback and adapt as you learn.
  • Collaboration, professionalism, and accountability.

Benefits and work model

  • Competitive hourly compensation.
  • Hybrid work model: 3 days in office and 2 days remote, based on team schedule.
