Genova Technologies has an immediate opening for a Software Engineering Manager in Cedar Rapids, IA.

What will you do?

This position involves overseeing a portfolio of engineering clients in the manufacturing, chemical, and construction industries with projects involving embedded software and web/mobile application development. The manager will serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day client relationship management across all assigned accounts while providing leadership, coaching, and professional development for a team of 3 to 10 direct reports. This position requires Daily work to be completed at our Cedar Rapids, IA office, with some potential for Hybrid work.

This role will:

• Lead and manage the software engineering team, supervising 3 to 10 direct reports embedded across multiple client accounts

• Serve as the primary point of contact between the project teams and clients for day-to-day relationship management

• Solicit customer feedback to assist in project backlog prioritization and tactical decision making

• Assist the COO with strategic client relationship management as needed

• Act as part-time Product Owner within Scrum teams as needed, translating client needs into actionable work for the team

• Write and maintain user stories to guide development activities

• Ensure all project documentation is complete, accurate, and meets contractual requirements

• Support planning, scheduling, and execution of software development activities across all assigned client accounts

• Maintain and grow existing client relationships, with a focus on ensuring continuity and expanding the scope of Genova’s engagement where appropriate

• Monitor developer spend against client project budgets, project remaining scope against available budget, and provide regular budget and status reports to each client

• Prepare and deliver a monthly executive summary to internal leadership assessing overall portfolio health

• Provide career guidance and support the personal and professional growth of direct reports

• Manage technical risks and escalate issues as appropriate to internal leadership

• Participate in and support technical interviews and onboarding of additional team members as the portfolio grows

• Represent Genova Technologies professionally in all client and internal interactions, adhering to company policies, standards, and values.

What do you need?

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

• 5+ years of post-baccalaureate experience in a technical or technology-adjacent field, with demonstrated technical curiosity and the ability to understand, engage with, and constructively challenge software engineering teams

• Demonstrated experience managing client relationships across multiple accounts, including day-to-day communication and expectation setting

• Experience owning and reporting against a project budget

• Proven ability to write and manage a product backlog including user stories

• Experience producing written status reports and executive-level summaries

• Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies

• Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal team leadership and client interaction

• Demonstrated ability to manage and develop employees in a distributed, client-embedded model.

Skills we consider a plus include:

• Demonstrated ability to expand existing client relationships, with experience stepping into established accounts and building on prior relationship foundations

• Experience transitioning into a role with an active handoff period, including the ability to build trust with clients and team members during a leadership change

• Familiarity with embedded software development concepts and constraints

• Familiarity with web and mobile application development

• Experience working in a Scrum environment as a Product Owner or Scrum Master

• Experience with one or more relevant technologies such as C, C++, Python, Angular, or JavaScript

• Familiarity with manufacturing, chemical, or construction industry software environments

• Familiarity with backlog and project management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
