Job Title: Senior AI Engineer / Data Scientist – Preconstruction Innovation
Location: Cleveland, OH (100% On-Site)
Department: Executive / Preconstruction Innovation
Reports To: President Owner
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Role
We are looking for an exceptional AI Specialist / Machine Learning Engineer to lead the artificial
intelligence revolution within our commercial construction estimating operations. No prior construction
background is required. We have the domain experts, decades of historical cost data, and the real-
world testbeds; we need a high-caliber technologist to build the intelligence layer.
Working 100% on-site at our Cleveland headquarters, you will report directly to the President
Owner. This is an executive-sponsored, high-visibility role designed to operate like an internal startup.
Without corporate red tape or middle management bureaucracy, you will work shoulder-to-shoulder with
leadership and seasoned estimating professionals to turn complex, manual workflows into automated, AI-
driven pipelines. You will be the primary architect productizing AI for high-stakes commercial bidding
across Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio.
What You Will Build Own
1. Custom AI LLM Pipeline Development
Document Contract Intelligence: Design and deploy custom Retrieval-Augmented
Generation (RAG) pipelines and Large Language Model (LLM) agents to ingest, parse, and
analyze massive unstructured datasets—including architectural specifications, legal contracts,
and subcontractor proposals—to flag financial risks and scope gaps.
Computer Vision for Blueprints: Implement and fine-tune computer vision and spatial-
recognition models capable of automatically measuring, counting, and extracting physical
quantities from complex 2D drawings and 3D Building Information Models (BIM).
Predictive Cost Modeling: Build machine learning regression and forecasting models that
predict total project costs and contingency needs based on historical bid data, current commodity
pricing, and regional economic indicators.
2. Data Architecture System Integration
Data Pipeline Engineering: Clean, structure, and transform decades of legacy data (PDFs,
Excel spreadsheets, ERP records) into robust, structured databases ready for machine learning
training and inference.
API Tech Stack Orchestration: Build seamless integrations between third-party AI
construction tools (e.g., Togal.AI, Document Crunch) and our core enterprise platforms (Procore,
Autodesk Construction Cloud, SQL databases, Power BI).
Automated Workflow Routing: Create automated, event-driven data workflows that eliminate
manual data entry between architectural model updates and financial estimating tables.
3. Executive Collaboration & Productization
Direct Strategic Alignment: Meet regularly with the President/Owner to set the technology
roadmap, demonstrate ROI, and align AI initiatives directly with the company's growth targets.
Shadow Synthesize: Sit alongside senior estimators and project managers in our Cleveland
office to deconstruct their intuitive decision-making processes, translating subject-matter
expertise into algorithmic logic.
Internal Product Management: Develop intuitive, low-friction user interfaces or chat-based co-
pilots that allow non-technical construction staff to query complex datasets and interact with your
AI models naturally.
The Symbiosis: What We Bring vs. What You Bring
What You Bring (Tech Mastery) What We Provide (Domain Immersion)
Deep expertise in NLP, RAG architectures,
LLM APIs
Direct, daily access to the President/Owner
and executive team
Proficiency in Python, SQL, & ML frameworks
(PyTorch, TensorFlow)
Decades of proprietary, untapped historical
cost bid data
Experience with Computer Vision spatial
document processing
An agile, on-site environment with zero
corporate bureaucracy
A hacker/builder mindset focused on automating
complex workflows
Real-world, multimillion-dollar testbeds across
Northeast Ohio
Qualifications
Required Tech Engineering Skills
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial
Intelligence, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM field.
Experience: 3–6 years of demonstrated experience building and deploying machine learning
models, data pipelines, or AI-driven software products in a commercial or research environment.
Core Stack Proficiency:
o Languages: Expert-level Python and SQL.
o AI/ML: Hands-on experience with LLM orchestration (LangChain, LlamaIndex),
OpenAI/Anthropic/open-source APIs, and prompt engineering.
o Data Cloud: Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), vector
databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, or pgvector), and containerization (Docker).
Executive Communication: Ability to translate complex algorithmic concepts into clear business
outcomes and ROI for executive leadership.
Why You Dont Need Construction Experience
We believe technical excellence and intellectual curiosity are harder to teach than construction
fundamentals. If you have a proven track record of applying AI to complex legacy industries (e.g., fintech,
manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, or supply chain), you will thrive here. Our President and veteran
leadership teams are committed to personally mentoring you on the business of commercial construction.
What We Offer
Top-Tier Compensation: $115,000 – $155,000+ base salary (benchmarked for competitive
software/data science talent), plus performance-based executive innovation bonuses.
Direct Executive Access: You will not be a cog in a massive engineering machine; reporting
directly to the Owner means your ideas can be approved and deployed in days, not months.
Comprehensive Benefits: 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision options; 401(k) with
immediate company match; and a collaborative, high-energy on-site environment at our
Cleveland headquarters.
Continuous Learning: Dedicated annual budget for AI/ML conferences (NeurIPS, AWS
re:Invent), compute resources for experimentation, and continuous technical upskilling.
