Job description

Job Title/Function: Sr. Back End Developer (AI-native)
Duration: 6 month contract-to-hire
Address: 26 S. Rio Grande St. #2072 Salt Lake City, UT 84101
Main responsibilities:
  • Day in the Life: Can plan for a feature, develop prototype fast with AI and then, after presenting to testers and getting feedback, realize it is missing context or needs new details and jump back into it with a very agile mindset.
  • Supporting any current/upcoming projects: Experienced enough with AI to ask questions like, "Will we charge client for token?" and is security-minded developer so they can respond to clients quickly
  • Training/ramp up: They will get soon after starting a $200 Claude Max subscription setup for them to use
Requirements:
  • MUST HAVE -
    • Close to 1 year AI-native engineering - Someone who extends AI capabilities, not just consumes them. Plenty of developers "use AI tools," but very few have actually built MCP servers or designed agent tooling.
      • Experience w/ modern LLM's like Claude Code, GPT-4, etc.
        • Building and hosting MCP servers
        • Designing custom tools and skills for AI agents
        • Orchestrating multi-agent workflows
        • Designed agent tooling
    • 5+ years Backend architecture with API design
      • Able to design and build microservices, RESTful APIs, and database schemas.
      • The specific stack (Python/FastAPI/PostgreSQL) is learnable; the architectural thinking is not.
    • CI/CD pipeline building experience. They use GitHub Actions - there is no more DevOps team
    • Self-directed problem solver - ability to pick up unfamiliar codebases, tools, and frameworks quickly without hand-holding. In an AI-first team, the bottleneck is never "do you know library X" - it's "can you figure out the right approach and execute."
  • Soft skills:
    • OK with a speed first mentality ahead of quality if not fundamentally against best practices - sustainable but can be fixed if needed.
    • Senior who can deploy something on their own and drive it forward without waiting for everyone else
    • No ego, no stupid questions mentality
    • Tight-knit collaboration mindset
    • Holds themselves accountable for being available during business hours
  • NICE TO HAVE
    • Modern JavaScript frameworks experience for Front End development
    • Python
    • GCP cloud experience
Claude Code experience with models like Opus and Sonnet
