Overview

Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies.  We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems.  Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

This position is located at the White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces, NM.

We are seeking degreed engineers to join the Technical Services Design & Analysis Group at NASA's White Sands Test Facility (WSTF). This team plays a key role in reviewing, designing, and analyzing pressure vessels and pressurized systems to ensure compliance with NASA requirements and national consensus standards.

The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining system compliance, updating system designs, and conducting safety and compliance evaluations. Over time, they will take on increasing responsibilities in system design, development, compliance assessments, and safety analysis while advancing their professional engineering expertise.

ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:
  • Review system documentation for compliance with NASA requirements.
  • Identify discrepancies between actual system configurations and recorded documentation.
  • Perform mechanical analyses, including relief device sizing, maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) calculations, and line sizing.
  • Document system compliance and support design reviews.
  • Develop system designs, define design requirements, and conduct failure mode and hazard analyses.
  • Oversee pressure system construction, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Perform routine engineering tasks using standard engineering practices and techniques.
  • Train toward achieving System Engineer and Pressure Vessel and Pressurized System (PVS) Designer qualifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while actively contributing to workplace safety initiatives.
QualificationsEngineer I

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Materials, Metallurgical, or Chemical Engineering.

Skills:

  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply standard engineering practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret fluid system schematics, component drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and verbal communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong technical writing and reporting capabilities.

Experience:

  • Entry-level position: no prior professional engineering experience required.
Engineer II

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Materials, Metallurgical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 2-5 years of relevant engineering experience.

Skills:

  • Must meet all qualifications of an Engineer I.
  • Ability to work independently and perform routine tasks with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency in mechanical analysis and system compliance evaluations.
