We have an opening for aHV Substation SCADA &MeteringEngineer.You willprovidecritical technical insight forthe design, testing, commissioning, andplacing in service ofHV substation SCADA systems andcomplex revenue and controls metering schemes for the integration of PV, BESS,and Wind renewable projects.


PrimaryResponsibilities

  • Review, comment,and approveSCADA systemsdesigns, communication architectures, input/output schematics, and point assignmentsin accordance withapplicable codes, standards, and procedures.

  • Review, comment, and approve configurations ofdata concentrators, RTUs, HMIs, switches, and other SCADA-related devices.

  • Support on-site commissioningand point-to-point testingofsubstations'SCADA systems.

  • Review electrical drawings tointerpret signal lists and develop SCADA graphics.

  • Review, comment, and approve integration ofSCADA systems to substation devices, relays, DFR, and metersutilizingvarious SCADA protocols.

  • Review,comment, and approveFAT and SAT test plansdeveloped by EPC contractors.

  • Become Knowledgeable with various Utilities, ISOs,and industry standards.

  • Coordinate and lead with third-partyconsultantsthe metering scheme for Solar, BESS, and Wind Power plants, following interconnection agreement and power purchasing agreement requirements.

  • Coordinate with other in-house engineering teams, such as substation engineering,SCADA, and OT, to ensure the proper installation, testing, and configuration of revenue and control meters and theirsubsequentconnection to AES's metering platform.

  • Provide input to early substation designs, consideringthe numberof meters and their respective location and purpose.

  • Coordinate with the development, origination, commercial, and interconnection teams, the proper metering scheme logic, following local power utility requirementsfor auxiliary powerandoverallloss compensation schemes.

  • Performroutine QA/QC data quality checks on output meter data to ensureaccurateand reliable data to be used on multiplesubsequentworkstreams, such as generation forecasts and generation actuals.

  • Gainproficiencyin the software needed to collect, analyze, and report data foraccurateMWh generation across the power plant fleet.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally withaccounting and performance engineering tocreate efficient andaccurategeneration dashboards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or an associate'sdegreein Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Working knowledge of SCADA systems, DNP3, Ethernet, IP Networks, and serial communication.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Willing to travel to supportthe commissioningteam.

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in utilities or Power System SCADA.

  • Experience with TCP/IP, DNP3,MODBUS, OPC/UA, and SEL protocols.

  • Familiar with authentication servers, virtual machines, and various operating system configurations.

  • Strong understanding of SCADA system integration.

  • Strong organizational skills withthe abilityto handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Advanced problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with field-level system integration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.

  • Experience with metering systems or related utilitymeter datamanagementtechnologiesis an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, evaluate, and interpretmeterdata.

  • Familiarity withmetering schemessuch as MV90.

  • High-level understanding ofthe design and operations ofSolar, BESS, WindPower Plants.

  • Familiarity with at least one SCADA PlatformforRenewable Energy, other platforms outside of Renewables will be considered an asset.

  • Familiarity with grid interconnection SCADA telemetry and control requirements across various markets and ISOs including CAISO, NYISO, PJM,MISOand ERCOT

  • Experience in integration of various devices, including Substation Devices (RTACs, Relays, Meters), Array Devices (Inverters, Trackers, Met Stations, BESS) and remote RTUs from Utilities and other 3rd Parties.

  • Experience with energy management software and energy management systems, with strong computer skills using spreadsheet and word processing software.

  • Experience in project management or construction environment.

  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills to address moderately complex problems.

  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical or operational informationin a strongly cross-functional environment.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience working on SCADA platforms such as GE, EATON,andSEL.

  • Configuration tools:SMP Tools,AcSELeratorQuickset, RTAC.

  • LAN hardware fromCISCO, Moxa, Hirschmann, and SEL.

  • Protocol analyzers such asASE2000 andWireshark.

  • IEC 61850 implementation.

  • Inductive Automation Ignition platform.

  • Protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, OPC/UA, SEL, and IEC 61850.

  • High voltage experience for electricutilities,and renewables.

  • Ethernet and IP networks, and serial communications.

  • Familiaritywith Itron MV90xi meter data management software.

  • Significant experiencewith MS Office suite, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools (GIS, Python)would be considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of relevant building codes, energy standards, and regulations including experience and/or knowledge of DOE metering standards and requirements
