Job Title: Purchasing Manager

Department: Production

Location: Butler Weldments Cameron, TX

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Description Summary:

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for ensuring that all purchase requisitions and orders are fulfilled within the company. The Purchasing Manager exercises strong research, evaluation, negotiation and understanding of the supply chain. This role also supports the Shipping and Receiving function of the company, ensuring that products are delivered to Butler Weldments? customers in an appropriate, timely and cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Promote and adhere to the Core Values and Behavior Code.
  • Negotiate directly with vendors to secure pricing and lead time.
  • Process requisitions and order requirements.
  • Manage supply chain to support production schedule.
  • Continually communicate the needs of the Company and the supply chain to achieve mutual success.
  • Review requisitions, purchases and estimates to identify areas of potential cost reduction to improve profitability.
  • Create, track and expedite purchase orders as needed to support production.
  • Assist with the receipt of purchased materials and services, keeping detailed records of purchases.
  • Effectively and efficiently communicate progress and disruptions in the supply chain by reporting the status of all open orders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and conduct reviews of performance.
  • Research and develop new vendors and suppliers to improve supplier base.
  • Manage the Approved Supplier List (ASL).
  • Assists with the closing of jobs in preparation to ship to the customer or vendor.
  • Serves as a resource to the Shipping and Receiving function for appropriate selection of transport per cost, time and size restraints.
  • Required to wear appropriate PPE as required by job duties.
  • Demonstrate effective communication with all levels of management and the team.
  • Strive to develop personal and professional skills.
  • Promote company goals including Safety, Quality, and Production.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors? Degree, preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years? experience in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of supply chain management.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills for both internal and external customers.
  • Excellent negotiation and customer service skills.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong decision making, organizational and math skills.
  • Detail orientated.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with the team.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to shift priorities based on the organizations? needs.
  • Self-motivated and able to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions, take ownership/accountability and operate with minimal supervision.
  • Integrity and professionalism are essential.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

This full-time position operates in both a professional office and production environment. Use of computer, telephone and other office equipment throughout the day as needed to conduct business. Physical effort consists of frequent handling of light to average weight and materials. Work performed requires constant alertness and activity, concentrated mental and visual attention required.
