Job description

BISCO is seeking an ambitious Purchasing Manager to join our thriving organization. We are an internationally recognized manufacturer of medical devices for the dental industry, specializing in the advancement and research of adhesive and composite technology. Our Purchasing Manager will play an important part in helping us grow.
This position is responsible for providing leadership and accountability for BISCO's purchasing function to ensure reliable, cost-effective, and compliant supply of materials, components, and services that support manufacturing, new product development, and business operations. This includes establishing sourcing strategies, leading supplier management and purchasing personnel, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with BISCO's Quality Management System, FDA, ISO 13485, MDR, and other applicable regulatory requirements. The Purchasing Manager will serve as the functional owner of purchasing processes, systems, and supplier performance.
It reports to the Director of Manufacturing Operations.
This position will be required to work out of the Schaumburg, IL office.
Salary range: $110K to $129K, commensurate with experience

Duties and Responsibilities for the Purchasing Manager:
  • Lead, Manage, and Hold People Accountable
  • Provide direction and oversight to direct and indirect reports
  • Plan and coordinate training for direct and indirect reports
  • Conduct performance management activities with direct reports
  • Ensure adequate staffing, manage employee relations, and maintain a positive working environment
  • Strategic Procurement
  • Own BISCO's strategic sourcing program, including supplier selection, negotiations, risk mitigation, and long-term supply continuity
  • Lead supplier negotiations
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Monitor commodity and market trends
  • Serve as functional owner of BISCO's purchasing processes, supplier relationships, purchasing policies, and procurement systems.
  • Procurement Management
  • Manage procurement of raw materials, packaging components, equipment, and indirect supplies
  • Ensure purchase orders are placed accurately and on time
  • Monitor supplier lead times and proactively mitigate supply risks
  • Resolve purchasing issues, shortages, pricing discrepancies, and delivery delays
  • Review and approve purchase orders within authorized limits
  • Supplier Management
  • Develop and maintain strategic supplier relationships
  • Own supplier qualification, approval, performance monitoring, and strategic development in partnership with the Quality Assurance department
  • Identify and qualify secondary suppliers
  • Ensure suppliers remain compliant with BISCO's supplier quality requirements
  • Support FDA, ISO 13485, and MDR supplier documentation requirements
  • Maintain purchasing records
  • ERP System Management
  • Support new item approval and vendor approval processes
  • Work closely with R&D, QA, Regulatory Affairs, and Manufacturing during new product launches
  • Collaborate with production scheduling to maintain appropriate inventory levels
  • Support inventory target setting and safety stock reviews
  • Own purchasing execution from MRP through supplier delivery to ensure uninterrupted production
Requirements for the Purchasing Manager:
  • Seven years of purchasing / procurement experience
  • One year of supervisory, project leadership, or mentoring experience preferred
  • ERP systems knowledge (NetSuite preferred)
  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (medical device preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field
  • MS Office Suite
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Supplier performance management
  • Data analysis and reporting
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 13485)
  • Understanding of FDA Quality System Regulation (21 CFR Part 820), MDR, and supplier quality requirements
  • Risk management and supply continuity planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence organizational decisions
  • Light office functions along with ability to access all areas of the facility
