What you'll do:
As a Purchasing Manager at QXO, you'll lead purchasing, supplier management, and inventory planning strategies that ensure our teams have the right products at the right time to support our customers and business growth. You'll develop strong vendor partnerships, optimize inventory investment, lead and develop purchasing teams, and collaborate across Sales, Operations, Warehouse, Inventory, and Finance to drive efficiency and financial performance.
Purchasing Leadership
  • Lead purchasing operations across assigned branches, business units, or product lines
  • Establish purchasing priorities, sourcing strategies, and inventory objectives that support business goals
  • Lead, coach, and develop Purchasing Agents and other purchasing team members
  • Ensure purchasing activities align with financial goals, inventory targets, and customer service expectations
  • Monitor purchasing performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, cost, and service
  • Promote consistency and best practices across purchasing operations

Vendor & Supplier Management
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and vendor partners
  • Negotiate pricing, purchasing terms, service agreements, and delivery expectations within company guidelines
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, service, delivery, availability, and cost
  • Monitor market conditions, product availability, pricing trends, and industry developments
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen vendor performance, reduce purchasing costs, and improve product availability

Inventory Planning & Optimization
  • Oversee inventory levels, replenishment strategies, inventory budgets, and inventory turns
  • Partner with Operations and Warehouse teams to balance product availability with inventory investment
  • Analyze inventory performance to identify shortages, excess inventory, slow-moving products, and purchasing opportunities
  • Support cycle counts, physical inventories, inventory reconciliation, and reporting
  • Ensure inventory systems accurately reflect product availability and transactions
  • Support demand forecasting and purchasing plans for seasonal demand, new products, and business growth

Purchasing Operations
  • Oversee purchase order processing, confirmations, vendor communication, and order follow-up
  • Monitor purchase orders from creation through delivery to ensure timely fulfillment
  • Coordinate delivery schedules and expedite critical materials when necessary
  • Ensure purchasing records, documentation, and supplier information remain complete and accurate
  • Support product transfers between branch locations when needed
  • Resolve purchasing and supply-related issues that could impact customer order fulfillment

Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Partner with Sales, Operations, Dispatch, Warehouse, Inventory, Finance, and leadership to support business objectives
  • Provide purchasing expertise during business planning, operational reviews, and leadership discussions
  • Maintain clear communication between purchasing teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with operational teams to proactively address product availability and supply-chain challenges
  • Support customer service by helping resolve purchasing-related issues quickly and effectively

Team Development & Continuous Improvement
  • Mentor and develop Purchasing Agents and future purchasing leaders
  • Cross-train team members to strengthen departmental knowledge and operational flexibility
  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing systems, workflows, inventory processes, and reporting
  • Support implementation of technology and process improvements that increase purchasing efficiency
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement
  • Perform additional duties and strategic projects as assigned

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, Purchasing, or a related field preferred
  • 5-7 years of progressive purchasing, inventory, procurement, or supply-chain experience
  • Previous experience leading or managing purchasing teams preferred
  • Experience within building materials, manufacturing, distribution, construction, or industrial supply preferred
  • Experience negotiating supplier agreements and managing vendor performance
  • Experience with inventory planning, purchasing analytics, and demand forecasting
  • Working knowledge of ERP, WMS, inventory management, and purchasing systems
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • CPIM, CSCP, CPSM, or related supply-chain certification is a plus

Work Environment & Requirements
  • Combination of office, warehouse, branch, and operational environments
  • Frequent collaboration with suppliers, purchasing teams, Warehouse, Sales, Finance, Operations, and leadership
  • Occasional travel between branch locations, supplier facilities, and company meetings
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods while reviewing purchasing reports, inventory data, and supplier information
  • Occasional visits to warehouses, yards, and operational facilities requiring appropriate PPE
  • Flexibility to work extended hours based on business needs and purchasing priorities
