Director of Purchasing – Construction

Highland Consulting Group is a nationwide recruiting firm that focuses on placing top construction talent within the commercial, institutional and industrial sectors.

We are recruiting an experienced Director of Purchasing with construction purchasing experience.  Our client is a larger regional contractor in the Baltimore area.  This position is extremely important to the success of the company and reports directly to the Vice President of Operations.  This department oversees the purchasing of Materials, Equipment, Bulk purchases, day to day consumables, specialty items, office equipment, machinery, vehicles, and other misc. items.  It also manages the rebate programs with all of the vendors.  We are recruiting for individuals that are highly organized, motivated and great negotiators.  No travel is anticipated.

Responsibilities:

  • Source and qualify vendors as necessary in order to meet project demands
  • Ensure that materials are delivered as scheduled
  • Collaborate with suppliers, vendors and Project Managers to establish and improve relationships, quality and overall partnerships
  • Reduce and/or maintain material costs through cost saving techniques along with strategic negotiation with vendors
  • Negotiate all vendor pricing of all front end commodities
  • Analyze multiple vendor bids and create all project budgets
  • Negotiate and monitor master contract agreements and vendor work scopes
  • Responsible for creation and distribution of all purchase orders and variance purchase orders
  • Continuously monitor and update vendor pricing and rebates
  • Manage a staff of purchasers

Requirements:

  • 5 years experience working as a Purchasing Manager in the construction industry – preferred
  • Experience with direct purchasing
  • Experience with direct import preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience negotiated large contracts is preferred
  • Experience managing purchasing department is preferred
  • Strong computer skills
  • Must be extremely organized
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
