Job description

Position Summary

The Commodity Manager is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials, components, and services to support production and operational needs in a fast-paced contract manufacturing environment. This role ensures timely delivery of quality materials at competitive prices while maintaining strong supplier relationships and supporting overall supply chain efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Procurement & Sourcing

  • Source, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery, and capability.
  • Analyze market trends to identify new sourcing opportunities and risks.
  • Issue purchase orders (POs) and ensure materials on-time delivery and fulfillment.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to achieve cost savings and favorable terms.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels in coordination with production and planning teams.

Supplier Management

  • Evaluate and monitor supplier performance based on agreed-upon terms, delivery times, and quality standards.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve any issues with defective or non-compliant goods.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and logistics partners.

Production Support

  • Collaborate closely with planning, engineering, and production teams to ensure material availability aligns with production schedules.
  • Expedite orders to prevent production downtime.
  • Resolve supply issues, discrepancies, or non-conformances promptly.

Data & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, and pricing data in ERP/MRP systems.

  • Proven experience working with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Epicor, or Eci-Max).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, lead times, and material planning.
