Summary

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels, monitoring stock movement, and supporting inventory control processes across the organization. This role ensures that materials and products are properly accounted for, available to meet operational needs, and aligned with company goals for efficiency and cost control. The Inventory Specialist collaborates closely with procurement, warehouse, and sales teams to optimize inventory accuracy, reduce waste, and support the overall supply chain function.

Essential Responsibilities

Inventory Management & Accuracy

  • Monitor and maintain optimal inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits, reconcile discrepancies, and ensure accurate data entry in all systems.
  • Investigate stock variances and collaborate with warehouse and procurement teams to resolve issues.
  • Track inventory movements across facilities and ensure proper documentation for all material transfers.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Generate and review reports on inventory accuracy, turnover, and utilization.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, forecast demand, and support purchasing and production decisions.
  • Maintain and update inventory databases, ensuring consistency between physical and system counts.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to management on inventory process improvements.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with procurement, logistics, and sales teams to ensure inventory aligns with production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Communicate stock shortages, delays, or surpluses to relevant departments to support timely decision-making.
  • Support cross-departmental initiatives to streamline operations and enhance supply chain visibility.

Process Improvement & System Support

  • Identify opportunities to improve inventory control processes, reduce errors, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Participate in the implementation and maintenance of ERP or inventory management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and standard operating procedures related to inventory handling and documentation.

Education & Experience

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in inventory control, supply chain, or warehouse operations.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, distribution, or retail environments.

Preferred

  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and demand planning principles.

Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Skills: Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze and interpret data accurately.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis tools).
