4–5 years of experience operating and setting up punch presses. Responsible for punching sheet metal parts in accordance with work orders, engineering drawings, and quality standards. Set up and operate punch press machines to produce parts that meet production and quality requirements.
Responsibilities and Duties
Review work order, print and tooling set up sheet to determine program, tooling and material requirements. Select and load proper tooling into the turret according to the set-up sheet. Verify the material thickness is as required by the work order and drawing prior to punching the material. Review set-up with Level II operator as required. Operate and monitor machine while in production to assure quality requirements are met and machine operation is optimal. Work with Level II operator to visually inspect tooling for worn areas and identify deficient tolling for sharpening or replacement.
Qualifications and Skills
Requires a moderate degree of experience in prior sheet metal manufacturing disciplines such as hardware installation, shear operation, etc. Requires basic reading, writing, and communication skills. Requires mathematical skills normally acquired through a high school level education or equivalent. Requires ability to read blue prints. Frequently required to work under production deadlines.
Requires the ability to use equipment and tools common to the trade. These include but are not limited to, pallet jacks, Forklift operation, Shear and measuring devices such as calipers, and micrometers, as well as basic hand tools such as clamps, hammers, wrenches, screw drivers and pliers. Requires physical ability to perform activities common to the trade including lifting up to 50 lbs.
