OurRespiratory Therapist reports to our Cardiopulmonary/RT/Sleep Director and supports Edgerton Hospital by providingbest practice, quality respiratory care and education to patients with pulmonary diseases or conditions using a variety of techniques and equipment. The Respiratory Therapist performs pulmonary function testing, sleep oximetry testing, EKG services and a variety of other services. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team and communicates effectively to support patient outcomes. Ensures patient care meets quality standards established by Edgerton Hospital and Health Services, the department, and regulatory agencies. Maintains skills and knowledge necessary to provide safe, effective, and developmentally appropriate respiratory care to patients of all ages.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs Assessments designed to gather data relevant to patient's individual needs.
  • Develop/implement plan of care to meet individual patient/family needs.
  • Conduct Pulmonary Function Testing and ensure it is read.
  • Administer patient nebulizer treatments.
  • Setting up and monitoring of patients on artificial ventilation.
  • Responsible for airway management.
  • Drawing of Arterial Blood Gases and ensuring they are delivered to the lab.
  • Setup and monitoring patients on a CPAP and Bi-PAP.
  • Monitoring Sleep oximetry.
  • Perform spirometry.
  • Performing of EKGs on inpatients and outpatients
  • Performs Cardiac Stress Testing including exercise stress testing, nuclear, and stress echo.
  • Assist physicians with bronchoscopy.
  • Oximetry checks on inpatients and outpatients.
  • Metered Dose Inhalers administration.
  • Assist with employee fit testing
  • Monitor portable oxygen delivery systems and exchange as necessary.
  • Assure availability and appropriateness of all respiratory emergency equipment throughout the organization.
  • Assist with development, data collection, and resulting departmental Quality Program.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned and/or requested to meet day to day operations of the department.
  • The positions essential functions require the handling or use of hazardous drugs.
  • Position requires compliance with department specific competencies.
