Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine at AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join a dynamic team supporting biologics drug discovery and engineering. This role sits within the High Throughput Antibody Production team, which applies automated, AI/ML‑enabled solutions for the delivery of recombinant biotherapeutics. In this position, you will make a meaningful impact by helping build and deploy our next‑generation lab‑in‑a‑loop capabilities.

We are seeking a talented scientist with a strong biological engineering background and deep expertise in advanced high‑throughput technologies as they pertain to antibody production and characterization. You will contribute directly to advancing our capabilities in high‑throughput analytics, supporting portfolio decisions and our lab‑in‑a‑loop effort. Qualifications

Education:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Biological Engineering, Bio/Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field, with typically 10+ years (BS), 8+ years (MS), or 0+ years (PhD) of pharmaceutical and/or relevant industry experience.

Skills and Experiences:

  • Expert knowledge of laboratory procedures for antibody discovery; ability to design, develop, optimize, and execute high‑throughput antibody analytics workflows to support high‑quality data generation at scale.
  • Proficiency in protein analytics, including SEC, HIC, MS, ELISA, biomolecular interactions, and cell‑based assays.
  • Hands‑on experience developing automated, high‑throughput assays using liquid handlers (Lynx, Hamilton, Tecan).
  • Familiarity with instrument integration, scheduling software (Cellario, Green Button Go, Overlord, Genera), and LIMS.
  • Proficiency in cell expression and antibody purification in a high‑throughput setting.
  • Familiarity with AI tools (e.g., Claude, Codex) and programming languages (Python, C#) to streamline operations and data workflows.
  • Creative thinking, strong motivation, and problem‑solving skills; demonstrated ability to engage internal and external scientific leaders in collaborative research.
  • Proactive in adopting new technologies to improve workflows, including developing proof‑of‑concept experiments for rapid go/no‑go decisions.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
