A Puerto Rico Construction job involves working on building, repairing, or maintaining structures such as homes, offices, roads, and bridges in Puerto Rico. These jobs can range from general labor and skilled trades like carpentry and masonry to project management and engineering roles. Workers must often follow local building codes, safety regulations, and sometimes hurricane-resistant construction standards. Many positions require physical labor, specialized skills, and experience with materials suited to Puerto Rico's tropical climate.
Construction professionals in Puerto Rico often work in varied weather conditions, which can impact project timelines and safety protocols. Navigating the island's specific building codes, permits, and regulations requires attention to detail and up-to-date knowledge. Additionally, effective communication with bilingual teams and coordinating supplies or equipment logistics can pose unique challenges. Being prepared for these situations helps ensure projects stay on track and fosters a productive work environment.
To thrive in Puerto Rico Construction, you need hands-on experience with building techniques, knowledge of local building codes, and often a high school diploma or vocational training in construction trades. Familiarity with construction management software, power tools, and safety certifications such as OSHA are commonly required. Strong teamwork, communication skills, and adaptability help construction professionals effectively coordinate with diverse crews and respond to evolving project needs. These skills ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to quality standards within Puerto Rico’s unique regulatory and environmental context.

About Solx
Solx is building the next generation of intelligent manufacturing. Our factory floor is where advanced hardware meets advanced software — and where AI at the edge directly drives yield, throughput, quality, and uptime. We are investing in the systems, infrastructure, and talent to make our operations the most intelligent in the industry — and we are building the manufacturing capacity to match that ambition.
About the Role
Everyone goes home safe. As Construction Safety Manager, you own the safety of every person on Solx's construction site — building and running the construction safety program for our manufacturing expansion from site prep through commissioning. On an active, multi-trade jobsite, you set the standard, hold every contractor and worker to it, and have the authority to stop work when it isn't met.
This is a hands-on, on-site role for a safety professional who has led safety on large, complex construction projects and knows how to build a real safety culture — not just paperwork. You will oversee contractor safety across every trade, drive hazard prevention in the field, and lead incident prevention and response. You will report directly to the Project Manager.
Core Responsibilities
• Develop, implement, and own the site-specific construction safety program, policies, and procedures.
• Enforce OSHA construction standards and applicable Puerto Rico and federal safety regulations across the site.
• Oversee contractor and subcontractor safety performance; review contractor safety plans, job hazard analyses (JHA/JSA), and qualifications.
• Conduct daily site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks; identify and correct hazards before they cause harm.
• Own controls for high-risk activities — excavation and trenching, fall protection, cranes/rigging/critical lifts, electrical and lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, and scaffolding.
• Hold stop-work authority and escalate serious risks to the Project Manager without hesitation.
• Lead incident prevention, investigation, and root-cause analysis; drive corrective actions and manage OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
• Deliver safety orientation and training for workers and visitors; manage site access, PPE standards, and safety signage.
• Own emergency response planning, drills, first-aid/medical coverage, and coordination with local responders.
• Track leading and lagging safety metrics and report performance to the Project Manager.
• Build and sustain a strong, visible safety culture across all trades on site.
What You'll Work On
The scope of this role spans the full construction safety program for a large, multi-trade high-tech build-out, including: program development and OSHA compliance, contractor safety oversight, high-risk work controls, incident prevention and investigation, safety training, and emergency preparedness.
• The construction safety program for a multi-gigawatt manufacturing build-out.
• Contractor and subcontractor safety oversight across civil, structural, building, MEP, and equipment-installation trades.
• High-risk work controls and permits — excavation, fall protection, crane/rigging, lockout/tagout, confined space, and hot work.
• Incident prevention, investigation, and corrective action.
• Safety orientation, training, and site emergency preparedness.
Required Qualifications
• 10+ years in construction safety, including the lead safety role on large, complex construction projects.
• Deep working knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926) and applicable federal and local regulations.
• Experience overseeing contractor and subcontractor safety on projects of $50M+.
• Hands-on experience managing high-risk construction activities and their controls.
• Strong incident investigation and root-cause analysis skills, with disciplined recordkeeping and reporting.
• OSHA 500/510 (construction outreach) and/or CHST, CSP, or comparable safety certification.
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent experience with relevant certifications.
• Strong field presence and the credibility to hold contractors to standard and stop work when needed.
• Willingness to be based on-site in Puerto Rico for the duration of construction.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bilingual English/Spanish — strongly preferred for clear communication with the site workforce.
• Experience on industrial, advanced-manufacturing, cleanroom, or fab construction projects.
• Familiarity with process-safety and hazardous-materials considerations as construction transitions to commissioning.
• Experience delivering projects in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, or other tropical, hurricane-exposed environments.
• First aid / CPR instructor certification.
Essential Functions & Physical Requirements
This is an on-site role based at an active construction site. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The role typically requires the ability to:
• Walk active construction sites and uneven terrain for extended periods, in outdoor conditions and varying weather, to observe work and enforce safety.
• Access excavations, elevated areas, scaffolding, and confined spaces as needed, and climb ladders or stairs.
• Work around heavy equipment, moving machinery, dust, noise, and construction hazards.
• Use and demonstrate standard personal protective equipment (PPE) as required on the construction site.
• Respond quickly on foot to incidents across the site, and occasionally lift and carry up to approximately 25 lbs.
Reasonable Accommodation
Solx provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities. If you need an accommodation during the application or interview process, contact [email].
Solx is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
