Job description

Puck is seeking an exceptional Executive Sales Director to lead advertising sales for the Financial Services category in New York. As an Executive Sales Director, you will be responsible for growing and maintaining our roster of clients across Financial Services through existing relationships and networks in the category. This opportunity is a unique blend of "hunting" and "farming," and the successful incumbent will have the skills, experience, and will-to-win that is imperative to success.
The Executive Sales Director will report to Puck's Chief Revenue Officer and will work closely with the rest of the Commercial team to evangelize the Puck brand and acquire new customers. You will also have exposure to the rest of Puck's executive team and star talent, providing an unparalleled opportunity to learn and develop inside of a fast-growing company. The ideal candidate will have a passion for developing new market segments, pinpointing high-potential opportunities, and executing strategies to capture them.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Foster and manage relationships with key clients and agency stakeholders to build best-in-class advertising partnerships with the world's leading brands. You will be responsible for existing and new accounts in the Financial Services vertical, and you will have your own quota.
  • Manage the full sales cycle: meet with decision-makers, understand campaign KPIs, negotiate and close new business, prove impact, and sell incremental campaigns.
  • Own and grow a category list through existing Puck relationships, your own relationships, outreach, prospecting, networking, and research.
  • Educate potential brand partners on Puck's business story, elite journalists, and advertising products.
  • Partner with Account Management and Creative Services to develop GTM materials, including ad product one-sheets.
  • Forecast, track, and report on sales performance for your vertical.

To best perform this job, you will demonstrate:
  • Passion for the media industry and for the businesses of your clients and customers, with an expertise in consultative selling.
  • A proven track record in relationship and new business development.
  • A drive to relentlessly expand Puck's network among brand and agency decision makers.
  • A strong ability to perform independently and proactively while working in a team environment.
  • A devotion to meeting and exceeding goals
  • High energy and positive attitude with a "no task too small" mindset
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Excellent communication skills, patience, manners, and "client hands"
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Minimum of 8+ years of sales experience in digital media (including a track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets)
  • Deep understanding and passion for Puck's mission and our content
  • Existing relationships within financial services companies across various verticals
  • Fluent in Microsoft Excel, Keynote, Google Slides; experience with Monday.com CRM a plus
Salary, Perks & Benefits:
  • Flexible PTO, in addition to company holidays
  • Company-sponsored health, dental, vision and 401K plans
  • Company equity
  • Endless development opportunities at a fast-growing startup
  • The salary hiring range for this position is $240,000 - $360,000 OTE, including base salary and commission. Final title and compensation will ultimately be based on the candidate's location, skill level and experience.

About Puck:
At Puck, we believe that journalists are society's original influencers. Yet the digital media economy of the last decade created an insurmountable rift between journalists and their followings. Puck exists to change that; we want to return power back to journalists by creating a media platform owned and operated by the journalists themselves. Puck is a news brand dedicated to the inside story, hyper-focused on the four power corners of American culture: Wall Street, Silicon Valley, Washington, and Hollywood. We are focused on the "last mile" of news - what the insiders are really saying.
Puck was founded by media industry veterans and a handful of entrepreneurial journalists. We launched in September 2021 and have been featured in The New York Times, Axios, Bloomberg, and other leading publications. We most recently raised a Series B with TPG Growth, Standard Investments, and J Rothschild Capital Management. We are headquartered in Manhattan with a nationally distributed workforce.
