General Description This Full-Time position performs highly responsible work in receiving requests for information or emergency assistance from the general public, law enforcement or emergency personnel. The Public Safety Telecommunicator is under the general supervision of the Senior Public Safety Telecommunicator. Essential Job Functions Receives and transmits all incoming emergency and non-emergency telephone calls and provides information to law enforcement personnel using direct radio communication by accessing computerized information regarding criminal histories, active warrants, vehicle registrations, driver's license status and similar information.
Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service. Maintains appropriate control logs and legends. Maintains telephone and radio recording systems, including teletype.
Makes H.E.A.R.T.S. calls to residents who live alone. Updates and maintains emergency contacts for businesses, including monitoring alarms, vacant house forms and Amber Alert notifications
Maintains security of facility by use of electronic devices associated with communications, including, monitoring video screens, lobby, city hall interior door, city hall exterior doors, parking lot, and garage. (These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. Employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned, including City-directed work assignments in the event of a declared emergency.) Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event
All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Ability to learn City geography and surrounding areas.
Ability to maintain poise, exercise good judgment and respond quickly in emergencies. Maintain a high level of customer service skills, including ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of administrative principles and practices, policies and procedures.
Ability to use computer software and enter data accurately from a wide variety of source documents. Ability to plan, organize and use mature judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions in accordance with established policy. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
Skilled in the use of office equipment, including copy machines and multi-line telephone systems. Skilled in the use of computers for data entry, word processing and accounting purposes. Vision and hearing must be correctable. Position may require the operation of a City vehicle. (Occasional=1-3 Hrs; Frequent=3-5 Hrs; Constant=5-8 Hrs - Per Work Day) Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
(A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications. Licenses and Certifications: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver's license by date of hire. Will be required to submit to a State and National Criminal Background Investigation.
