Job description
Founded in 1977 as the Senior Care Action Network, SCAN began with a simple but radical idea: that older adults deserve to stay healthy and independent. That belief was championed by a group of community activists we still honor today as the “12 Angry Seniors.” Their mission continues to guide everything we do. Today, SCAN is a nonprofit health organization serving more than 500,000 people across Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Washington, with over $8billion in annual revenue. With nearly five decades of experience, we have built a distinctive, values‑driven platform dedicated to improving care for older adults. Our work spans Medicare Advantage, fully integrated care models, primary care, care for the most medically and socially complex populations, and next‑generation care delivery models. Across all of this, we are united by a shared commitment: combining compassion with discipline, innovation with stewardship, and growth with integrity. At SCAN, we believe scale should strengthen—not dilute—our mission. We are building the future of care for older adults, grounded in purpose, accountability, and respect for the people and communities we serve.
JobThe Public Relations (PR) Specialist supports SCAN’s External Communications function as it continues to evolve beyond traditional public relations to serve as the communications partner for multiple organizations, brands, executive leaders, and enterprise initiatives. This role provides executional support across integrated public relations, corporate communications, thought leadership, social media, video production, event communications, media monitoring, reporting, and PR administration to strengthen SCAN’s reputation, amplify its leadership, and support business growth.
The PR Specialist supports proactive communications, timely delivery, and consistent quality across an expanding portfolio that includes SCAN Health Plan, SCAN Sales, SCAN Central, SCAN Embrace, Healthcare in Action, myPlace Health, CEO communications, CEO podcast support, thought leadership, speaking engagements, Communications Council engagement, and strategic communications consulting for enterprise priorities. This role takes on operational responsibilities that require significant senior‑level involvement, allowing External Communications leadership to focus on enterprise strategy, executive counsel, reputation management, crisis communications, and high‑value media engagement.
You Will Support public relations, media relations, and corporate communications activities, including media monitoring, media list management, reporting, and timely response support for media inquiries and reputation management situations. Assist with press release development, editing, distribution logistics, and coordination to support strategic partnership announcements, launches, enterprise campaigns, and high‑profile communications initiatives. Provide executional support for executive thought leadership, CEO communications, CEO podcast support, executive platform expansion, and increased national conference speaking opportunities. Coordinate speaking engagement activities, including tracking opportunities, supporting preparation logistics, maintaining related materials, and assisting with follow‑up communications. Support social media content development and coordination across SCAN Group’s growing portfolio of platforms, including enterprise social media, executive social media, campaign execution, publishing support, and day‑to‑day platform management. Assist with video production, multimedia storytelling, and digital content development to meet growing demand for enterprise video storytelling, campaign support, and brand visibility. Provide event communications support for major enterprise priorities, including SCAN’s 50th Anniversary campaign, grand opening of the new Cerritos headquarters, strategic partnership events, and other business initiatives. Support communications analytics and reporting by tracking media coverage, social performance, campaign activity, speaking engagements, and other measures that demonstrate communications impact and business value. Provide project management support across concurrent communications initiatives to improve speed, quality, coordination, and consistency across multiple brands and business units. Perform general PR administration and coordination duties to create additional capacity for External Communications leadership and help the function scale alongside SCAN’s strategic growth.
We seek Rebels who are curious about AI and its power to transform how we operate and serve our members. Actively support the achievement of SCAN’s Vision and Goals. Other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications3‑5 years of experience supporting public relations, corporate communications, media relations, social media, content development, or related communications functions. Experience coordinating communications projects, tracking deliverables, preparing materials, and supporting multiple stakeholders or initiatives. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with social media platforms, media monitoring tools, analytics, or digital content tools. Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience supporting communications in healthcare, nonprofit, government, public affairs, senior services, managed care, or mission‑driven organizations. Experience supporting executive communications, thought leadership, speaking engagements, media opportunities, or enterprise campaigns. Experience with video production, digital storytelling, social media analytics, media tracking, or PR reporting. Experience supporting multiple brands, business units, or complex enterprise communications portfolios.
Skills / AbilitiesStrong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to support public relations, corporate communications, social media, thought leadership, and event communications. Ability to manage multiple concurrent communications initiatives while maintaining timely delivery, attention to detail, and consistent quality. Strong project coordination and organizational skills, including the ability to track deadlines, logistics, media lists, reports, speaking engagements, and campaign deliverables. Ability to support proactive earned media, executive visibility, national thought leadership, and strategic communications initiatives across multiple brands and business units. Knowledge of media relations, press release support, media monitoring, reporting, and reputation management practices. Ability to support social media strategy, content development, publishing coordination, analytics, and digital storytelling across multiple platforms. Ability to assist with video production, multimedia storytelling, and digital content development in support of enterprise campaigns and external visibility.
