Job description

Job Title: Educator
Job Status: Full-time
Job Summary: Under limited supervision, the Educator uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to conduct educational tours for adults, students and organizations (public and private).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct educational tours at the museum
  • Prepare presentations and educational materials for educators and students including presentations on the history and contributions of Arab Americans
  • Conduct presentations regarding the Arab American culture both onsite at the Museum as well as other locations (schools, community events, conferences, etc.)
  • Assist with the implementation of youth programs and may lead on some programs
  • Research information regarding various exhibits and present to audiences as appropriate
  • Schedule and coordinate museum visits
  • Establish and maintain contact with various clientele requesting museum tours including schools, teachers and various civic organizations
  • Maintain records of visitors including payment and invoicing information
  • Assist as needed with reviewing grant content and ensuring requirements are met
  • Assist as needed with gathering information for grant reporting and writing reports for various grants
  • Plan events to increase the number of visitors to the museum
  • Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Fundamental concepts, principles and practices of Arab American, Ethnic and Middle Eastern history and current events

Skill in:
  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft Office

Ability to:
  • Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives
  • Develop and deliver public presentations
  • Interpret and apply policies and identify and recommend changes as appropriate
  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum Degree Required:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Required Disciplines:
    • Education, Middle Eastern Studies/Arabic or related field

  • At least one to two years working as an educator
  • Experience of working with children/students is a preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human Resources

Working Conditions:
Hours: Normal business hours, some additional hours may be required
Travel Required: None generally required; Local, in-state, national, and international travel, up to 5%
