How does a public policy associate typically collaborate with government officials and advocacy groups on policy initiatives?

As a Public Policy Associate, you will regularly interact with government officials, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to support the development and promotion of policy initiatives. This collaboration often involves attending meetings, drafting briefing materials, and synthesizing feedback from various parties. Building and maintaining professional relationships is essential, as you'll coordinate efforts, address concerns, and help align goals among diverse groups. You typically work under the supervision of a senior associate or department head and perform tasks they direct; however, you should be capable of working independently and proactively when it comes to crafting policies that help your organization or constituency.

Job description

Stand Together is a philanthropic community that helps America’s boldest changemakers tackle the root causes of our country’s biggest problems, from education to the economy, broken communities, and toxic division, among dozens of other pressing issues. We provide our partners with access to resources including funding, thought leadership, a network of peers, and a playbook for applying proven principles to transform lives and society.

Stand Together Communications is seeking a Senior Social Media Manager to lead the planning, oversight, and execution of digital strategies and campaigns that advance Stand Together’s priority initiatives.

In this role, you’ll manage social media strategy and content for Americans for Prosperity (AFP), AFP Foundation (AFPF), and other Stand Together community partners. You will help shape broader digital campaigns to build awareness, engage audiences, and drive organizational goals.

You will partner with AFP’s public policy experts, grassroots teams across the country, and federal affairs team to educate Americans on crucial public policy issues, drive advocacy and accountability efforts, and more through your expertise with social media strategy, content creation, and data analysis.

How You Will Contribute

  • Manage AFP and AFPF’s social media channels, driving strategy and innovation in support of their grassroots political and public policy work

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and team members to ensure that goals are properly identified, digital plans are fully integrated with comprehensive communications strategies, and ongoing performance is measured and reported

  • Ensure that plans leverage our internal capabilities and account for long-term needs to build and maintain audience reach through websites, social media, and email marketing

  • Identify creative, out-of-the box ways to engage on issues and to capture opportunities that align with priorities and goals

  • Increase the awareness and exposure of critical branded priority initiatives through paid advertising and organic promotion on social media and other digital platforms

  • Develop regular reports to track key metrics across digital platforms and communicate performance to key stakeholders

  • Establish and maintain workflow processes and structure to maintain effective execution on multiple issue areas

What You Will Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in a digital communications or marketing role owning content and strategy for social media

  • Strong understanding of social media trends, strategy, and best practices

  • Experience in grassroots political advocacy, political campaigns, or public policy

  • Willingness to collaborate and a passion for policy issues

  • Ability to create graphics, script, film, and edit social-first video, and draft compelling copy

  • Experience working with multiple priorities and stakeholder relationships concurrently

  • Out-of-the-box mindset to propose innovative and experiential digital strategies

  • Experience with social media platforms and digital content management systems

  • Strong critical thinking skills and creative mindset to develop effective engagement tactics

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Attention to detail and project management skills

  • Enthusiasm to contribute to Stand Together's vision and principled approach to solving problems, and a commitment to stewarding our culture, which champions values including transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect
Standout Candidates May Also Bring
  • 3+ years of experience creating digital strategy

  • 3+ years of social media experience in political campaigns, public policy organizations, government offices, or other political work

  • Digital marketing agency experience

What We Offer
  • Competitive benefits: Enjoy a 6% 401(k) match with immediate vesting, flexible time off, comprehensive health and dental plans, plus wellness and mental health support through Peloton and Talkspace
  • A meaningful career: Join a passionate community of over 1,300 employees dedicated to improving lives and driving innovative solutions to complex social challenges
  • Commitment to growth: Thrive in a non-hierarchical environment that empowers employees to discover, develop and apply their unique talents
