Job description

Data Scientist
What you will be doing:
This position will have responsibility for conceptualizing, designing, implementing, and validating new machine learning algorithms to enhance our Clinical Decision Support Platform. This position will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team comprised of engineers and clinicians. Apply knowledge of statistics, programming, data modeling, and other data science techniques to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to prototype development and product improvement. This individual will be responsible for supporting analyses alongside a Sr./Principal Data Scientist and Product Directors/Senior Directors. This individual will be expected to execute complex analytic protocols under the guidance of these senior team leaders and be able and willing to gain proficiency with new methodologies over time. Deploy knowledge of healthcare datasets, including electronic health records, administrative billing, post-adjudicated claims, purchase order, and invoice datasets.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibility #1- 40%
Algorithm Development and Implementation
• Use a flexible, analytical approach to design, develop, and evaluate predictive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data
• Produce innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from complex and highly dimensional datasets
• Work with developers and product engineers to translate prototypes into new products, services, and features, and provide guidelines for large-scale implementation
Responsibility #2 - 25%
Data Strategy and Design
• Participate in data exploration and conceptual design for strategic initiatives
• Apply knowledge of statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, programming, data modeling and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to prototype development and product improvement
• Generate and test hypotheses and analyze and interpret the results of product experiments
Responsibility #3 - 15%
Requirements Analysis
• Analyze business requirements, procedures, and problems, design and develop solutions for production
• Develop features and stories based on requirements to feed product backlogs
Responsibility #4 - 10%
Knowledge Sharing
• Provide data science practice advice, demonstrations and presentations to colleagues, clients, and management. Conduct research, as needed
• Provide mentoring and training
Responsibility #5 - 10%
Data Operations
• Develop project estimates and work plans
• Identifying, developing, reviewing, and evolving best practices, standards, operating procedures, and processes
• Participating in the review of team member deliverables
Required Qualifications
Work Experience:
Years of Applicable Experience - 2 or more years
Education:
Bachelors (Required)
Preferred Qualifications
Skills:
  • Apply machine learning to real world problems
  • Successful track record of delivering results in a complex cross-functional project
  • Knowledge of SQL, R and/or Python and associated scientific, data, and machine learning libraries
  • Experience working in one or more cloud computing environments
  • Software Development experience in agile environment
  • Workflow tools such as Luigi or Airflow
  • Health care research experience, with large patient data sets

Experience:
  • Experience with manipulating and analyzing large scale datasets
  • Experience applying the data science lifecycle to gain insights and perform causal inference
    Experience working in remote teams

Education:
  • Master's degree in an empirical field such as statistics, bioinformatics, mathematics, public health, data science, economics, engineering, physics, etc.

Working Conditions: Remote
Travel Requirements: Travel 1-20% within the US
Physical Demands: Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves remaining stationary most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if movement is required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Premier's compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier's internal salary range for this role is $72,000 - $120,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
