Job Summary: Provide comprehensive health support to students by minimizing absences due to illness and fostering a healthy school environment. Facilitate the educational process by addressing and removing health-related barriers, promoting optimal well-being, and enhancing quality medical and health education experiences. Supervise non-licensed and licensed practical nurses as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities:
Licensure/Certifications: Current active Registered Nurse license as required by the state nursing board.
Work Shift: 1st Shift, approximately 28.4 hours per week.
This position is located in a regional area of the Midwest United States.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Fiscal Responsibility: Efficiently manage supplies and equipment, streamline processes to reduce waste, complete duties timely, and document scheduled hours accurately. Participate in scheduled education and maintain proper documentation.
- Quality: Deliver quality triage, treatment, and first aid for students. Stay current with state health board standards and policy changes. Utilize critical thinking, multitask effectively, delegate appropriately, and develop Individualized Healthcare Plans when necessary.
- Patient Satisfaction: Communicate effectively and compassionately with students, staff, and parents. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Support students' specific healthcare needs and facilitate their educational progress.
- Patient Safety: Adhere to universal precautions, fall prevention, safe patient mobilization, and accurate vital sign assessment. Administer medications safely using two patient identifiers, maintain pharmacology knowledge, provide education on health matters, ensure immunizations/testing compliance, and train school personnel as needed. Follow established medical protocols.
- Professional Growth: Maintain competency through routine substitute work, demonstrate leadership, participate in professional organizations and educational activities, and stay informed on school and public health topics.
- Customer Service: Uphold high customer service standards, address ethical issues, and embody nursing mission and values. Foster positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community. Provide holistic care to diverse student populations and support future healthcare students.
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with an Associate in Nursing Degree required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred or required within five years of hire.
- Minimum two years of experience in health care related to school-age children or school nursing preferred.
- BLS certification and computer proficiency required.
- Area-specific education requirements must be obtained upon hire and maintained.
Licensure/Certifications: Current active Registered Nurse license as required by the state nursing board.
