Job summary: Psychiatric Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive behavioral health care, conduct patient assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, administer medications, and support crisis intervention within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The ideal candidate will maintain compliance with DoD and Joint Commission standards while delivering compassionate, age-appropriate patient care, education, and behavioral health support across the continuum of care. This role is at Augusta Military Medical Center in Fort Belvoir, VA.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Accredited school of Nursing (Diploma, AD or BSN)
  • Certifications: RN with a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is desired
  • Experience: Minimum of three years full time experience within the last five years caring for adult patients as a RN in a behavioral health care setting. Maintain qualifications and skills of a Psychiatric Registered Nurse as confirmed by completion of the Skills Checklist and verified by the clinical manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs comprehensive behavioral health nursing assessment and history to plan, provide, and direct nursing care across the continuum of care.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to identify patient problems and generate nursing diagnoses.
  • Designs a plan of care and writes/implements nursing orders to achieve established goals
  • Identifies pending crisis situations and initiates emergency measures, as appropriate. Knowledge of emergent psychiatric disorders and crisis intervention
  • Gathers bio-psychosocial information about the patient and their family, pertinent to their general health status and the development of drug abuse/alcohol dependence.
  • Identifies and monitors patients for the signs and symptoms associated with withdrawal and relapse.
  • Skill in behavioral health assessment, triage, evaluation, treatment, and disposition of complex psychiatric cases, with special attention to the level of care appropriate to treat the particular clinical diagnosis and dilemma

Work Environment & Schedule: Onsite, Monday through Saturday, varying between the hours of 7:00 through 6:00pm hours not to exceed 40 hours per week, to include an unpaid 30 min or 1 hour lunch. The clinics are closed on Sundays and Federal Holidays, no overtime.

Physical requirements: Required to work in an environment which usually involves exposure to infection and contagious diseases, requirement of gloves, gowns, surgical, N95 mask or PAPR for personal
precaution, as appropriate.
