Department:   Private APP
Shift Details: Full-time, salaried, Monday-Friday.  Full benefits included and we are closed the six major holidays!   Part-time may be considered.  

** This is a newposition available for a Private Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to assist one of ourboard-certified hand, wrist and elbow surgeons who cares for patients at our NW Indianapolis and Westfield locations. **

  • OrthoIndy Hospital Northwest, located in Indianapolis, Indiana,provides outpatient care and inpatient care, with 10 operating rooms, 2procedure rooms and a 42-bed inpatient unit for patients undergoing moreinvasive procedures, such as disc replacement, spinal fusion or total hip andknee joint replacement.   Other services include an urgent care,clinics, pre-op clinic, imaging and physical therapy. 
  • OrthoIndyHospital Westfield, located inWestfield, Indiana, includes four operating rooms and provides many types of outpatient procedures and surgeries!   OurWestfield location also provides outpatient care for patients thatincludes an urgent care clinic, clinics, imaging and physical therapy. 

General Statement of Duties:

All clinical care provided by the Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will be within the scope of the duties assigned by the supervising OrthoIndy Physician. The supervising Physician must be either physically present or immediately available for consultation when services are proved by the Advanced Practice Provider, including care provided using protocols, guidelines, and/or standing order. When the supervising Physician is unavailable, they may designate another Physician who has agreed to temporarily be responsible for the supervision.

Essential Duties:

  1. Helps plan and implement care of patients, including entering orders into the patient record that are verbal orders or part of standing orders or protocols approved by the supervising physician. Supports supervising physician with both outpatient clinics and surgery visits.   Provides direct patient treatment, including but not limited to: performing as a First Surgical Assistant, assists with simple wound care and repair, joint injection and aspiration, administration of local anesthetic and digital blocks, joint and fracture reduction, and application of braces, splints, and other DME and soft goods. 
  2. Orders radiologic and laboratory tests and studies as necessary to complete history and physical examinations.
  3. Assesses patients and assesses normal and abnormal findings obtained from history and physical examination as well as radiology and ancillary studies.
  4. Plans and implements care of patients, including; EMR documentation, ordering additional studies: communicates with supervising Physician and additional staff, and prescribing appropriate medications.
  5. Helps to counsel individuals and families about their health-related issues. Communicates individualized teaching plans to patients based on their needs.
  6. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner required, Master's Degree preferred
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or American Association of Nurse Practitioners certification required
  • Indiana Physician Assistant Committee or Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses of Indiana certification required
  • BLS certification required, ACLS preferred
  • No prior experience required, 1-2 years of related experience preferred
