The University of Miami's College of Arts and Sciences has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Research Associate 1 to work in Coral Gables, FL.

The Department of Psychology, in the College of Arts & Sciences, is seeking a full-time Research Associate 1 to join the laboratory of Dr. Amishi Jha engaging in neurobehavioral studies of mindfulness training in high-demand cohorts. The Research Associate should have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or other related field. Candidates with experience in programming and collecting data with cognitive neuroscience measures (behavioral tasks, EEG/FMRI) are highly encouraged to apply. Interest and prior experience in studies of attention and emotion regulation are preferred.

As detailed below, the responsibilities of the Research Associate will include the coordination and logistical management of research projects, experimental programming, data analysis, and data collection. The Research Associate's two primary responsibilities will be to (1) assist in the overall management, coordination, and execution of research projects, and (2) program experiments and collect, analyze, process, and present behavioral data. Successful applicants must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be highly organized, detail-oriented, be self-motivated, and work independently as well as with others in a team-based research environment. Candidates with knowledge and understanding of research methodology, basic statistics, and cognitive psychology or cognitive neuroscience are highly preferred.


The Research Associate 1, GAB supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
Core responsibilities:

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
  • Participates in the publication of significant results.
  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
  • Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
  • Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
  • Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Lab Specific Responsibilities:

  • Supports IRB process and clinical trial registration to ensure that the highest ethical standards are followed in research activities.
  • Provides lab tutorials and reviews work done by undergraduate research assistants.
  • Lab organization, management of basic lab functions (scheduling meetings, archiving, submitting expense reports etc).
  • High integrity and high conscientiousness for all research activities.
  • Assisting with grant reports, manuscript and presentation preparation, including conducting literature searches and reviews.
  • Offsite travel for data collection.
  • Programming, collection, and analysis of neurobehavioral, ERP, and fMRI data.

Core Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, Neuroscience or other related field.
  • No previous experience required. One year of cumulative experimental psychology research experience preferred, with experience in cognitive tasks strongly preferred.
  • Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, SPSS, or R preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under clear deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Maintains accuracy and attention to detail under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
