Job Overview
The Thrive Center for Children, Families & Communities is implementing the Parenting Support Program- Early Intervention- MIECHV, a home visiting program designed to support pregnant women with high-risk pregnancies and families with children in or exiting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) funded through DC Health. The primary focus of the program is to identify, assess, and deliver high-quality services to families across the District with emphasis on Wards 5,7, & 8. The project's aim is to support vulnerable families and children to improve their pregnancy and postpartum health, education and well-being. The PSP-EI Parent Educators are responsible for recruiting through community engagement and providing parent education, screening and referral services via home visiting to potential participants.
Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Actively recruit volunteer families to participate in the home visiting program through community outreach and engagement;
  • Utilize screening tools to provide mandated screening and ongoing assessment to ensure effective coordination and delivery of critical health, developmental, early learning, child abuse and neglect prevention, and family support services to children and families who choose to participate in this program.
  • Accurately document, collect and report performance measurement, and other data into multiple systems in a timely manner;

Work Interactions
The roles and responsibilities of this position aligns with the overall Thrive Center mission of addressing and improving the quality of life for all children and youth and their families. This position reports to the PSP Supervisor and will interact with the Principal Investigator/Project Director, interface with individuals within the circle of support for the families, and other service providers and District agencies that provide services to families.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency, Some College Classes or Associates Degree, (or equivalent education and experience) and previous work experience with families and young children required
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent judgement and knowledge of parenting skills, demonstrate cultural competence in dealing with parents with intellectual disabilities and work with a wide variety of parental skill levels
  • Must be knowledgeable about community resources in Washington, DC

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field of study preferred
  • Strong experience in accurate documentation and data entry as this position requires frequent data entry
  • Ability to use electronic equipment to input data via laptop computer or a handheld electronic device
  • Proficiency in Spanish or other non-English language preferred
  • Willingness to work evenings when necessary to meet parent's availability is preferred
  • Position is subject to the GU Policy Protection of Minors, UHR 1018, and a District and Federal Background Check.

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
