What is provisioning in the context of IT and telecommunications?

Provisioning refers to the process of setting up, configuring, and managing resources, services, or equipment to ensure that users or customers have access to the necessary technology or network capabilities. In IT and telecom, this often involves preparing and deploying servers, software, network connections, or user accounts. Provisioning ensures that the right resources are available at the right time, according to business or customer requirements. It's a critical part of onboarding new users, devices, or services, and helps maintain efficiency and security within an organization.

What are some common challenges provisioning specialists face when coordinating service activations, and how can they be managed?

Provisioning Specialists often encounter challenges such as tight deadlines, coordinating across multiple departments, and managing last-minute changes to customer requirements. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are crucial for managing these demands. Leveraging workflow management tools and maintaining clear documentation can help streamline processes, reduce errors, and ensure timely service delivery. Building strong relationships with technical teams and customer service staff also aids in quickly resolving issues that may arise during provisioning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a provisioning specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Provisioning Specialist, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with telecommunications or IT provisioning processes, often supported by a relevant associate degree or certification. Familiarity with provisioning software, order management systems, and ticketing tools like ServiceNow or Salesforce is typically required. Effective communication, problem-solving, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines are key soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure accurate and timely service delivery, minimize errors, and support seamless operations in fast-paced technical environments.

Job description

About Fluidstack
We exist to make humanity more free. For most of human history, you farmed or you starved. Technology gave people more time for the things they wanted to do, instead of things they had to do. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice we've ever built - but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. There are groups building AI who don't share these goals. Whoever deploys frontier compute infrastructure fastest will decide whether AI expands human freedom or shrinks it.
We're singularly focused on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else, rethinking every layer of the stack. We acquire power, design and build data centers, and operate them - with teams spanning hardware and software. Speed and scale are our key differentiators. Come be a part of building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI.
We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply!
How We Operate
  • Be a barrel. Full autonomy. Own things end to end, take on scope without being asked, no permission required to operate outside your core role.
  • Insane urgency. We drive everything forward as fast as possible.
  • Reason from first principles. Challenge every assumption. Zero analogy thinking, no egos, the best idea wins.
  • Love of the game. The frontier of AI is the most interesting problem of our time. We put in long hours at high intensity to push the frontier forward.
  • Build something that actually matters. If you're going to spend your time, spend it on something that matters to the world.

The Finance & Accounting Team
Examples of key problems the team is working on
  • Build the financial infrastructure from the ground up (NetSuite, Zip, Shareworks, Pigment).
  • Stand up a lean finance org for the fastest-growing data center hyperscaler.
  • Own the full stack from vendor invoice to cap table.
Role Scope
  • Own the income tax provision under ASC 740 end to end across a multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction datacenter company scaling to tens of gigawatts.
  • Build the tax provision process and controls from the ground up alongside the finance systems stack such as NetSuite, Zip, and Pigment.
  • Manage the relationship with external tax advisors and auditors, and own the tax positions that have to survive an audit.
  • Model the tax impact of new sites, entities, financings, and jurisdictions as the company expands across states and countries.
  • Partner with accounting and FP&A to keep the effective tax rate, deferred taxes, and disclosures accurate through every close.
What We're Looking For
  • The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
  • You've owned the ASC 740 income tax provision for a company through its audits, including deferred taxes, valuation allowances, and the rate reconciliation.
  • You've built or overhauled a tax provision process and its controls rather than inheriting a finished one.
  • You've managed external tax advisors and auditors and held your tax positions under their scrutiny.
  • You've handled tax across multiple entities and jurisdictions, including the complexity that comes with new states and countries.
  • You've partnered with accounting and FP&A during a close and delivered the provision and disclosures on the timeline the close demanded.
  • You explain a technical tax position clearly enough that a non-tax executive can make a decision on it.
  • Bonus: CPA or an advanced tax qualification. Big Four tax provision experience. Capital-intensive or infrastructure companies. Multinational tax and transfer pricing. NetSuite or Pigment.

We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
