Job description

Summary:
This position is responsible for supporting the development, testing, and validation of advanced automotive brake systems. This is a hands-on, vehicle-focused role working closely with Control Systems Engineers in lab, garage, and proving ground environments.
Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Product Development & Testing Support
  • Install prototype brake components on test vehicles
  • Install and configure data acquisition systems and sensors
  • Prepare vehicles for testing, including brake and tire burnishing
  • Execute vehicle testing based on internal and customer-defined procedures
  • Collect, document, and organize test data
  • Modify and assemble electrical components used in testing
  • Troubleshoot and resolve vehicle, sensor, and data acquisition issues
  • Create and maintain test documentation to improve efficiency and repeatability

Equipment & Vehicle Support
  • Assist with calibration of sensors and test equipment
  • Support preparation of vehicles for shipment and testing events
  • Perform basic maintenance on department test vehicles and equipment as needed

Other Responsibilities and Duties:
Safety, Quality & Workplace Organization
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures in labs, garages, and proving ground environments
  • Actively support 5S principles by maintaining clean, organized, and clearly labeled work areas
  • Identify and report safety concerns, near misses, and equipment issues
  • Properly handle, store, and dispose of tools, materials, and test equipment
  • Participate in required safety training and continuous improvement activities

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This role operates under the guidance of control system engineers and senior technicians, with increasing independence as skills develop.
  • Work locations include laboratories, garages, proving grounds, and office settings
  • Some domestic or international travel may be required.
  • Regular travel to the Fowlerville Proving Grounds 3-5 days per week.

Seasonal travel includes:
  • 4-6 weeks of winter test during January and February each year.
  • Additional 2-4 weeks of travel to other test locations as required.

Ability to lift equipment, parts and vehicle components up to 50lbs.
Equipment and Supporting Services:
Basic Equipment needed is; laptop, Cell Phone optional: BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) allows the use of personal smartphone or iPad tablet to be connected to company apps, business cards and security badge.

  • Associate Degree in Automotive Technology or a related field.
  • Experience in diagnosing, and repairing brake or vehicle systems
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical or fabrication equipment
  • Interest or experience in motorsports or high-performance driving environments

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School graduate with strong interest in a career in the automotive field.
  • Currently pursuing, or planning to pursue, a degree in Automotive Technology or a closely related field.

Special Skills:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn specialized automotive systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues methodically
  • Comfortable working with computers and common office software
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with a professional, positive attitude
