What does a prototype tech do?

A Prototype Tech, short for Prototype Technician, is responsible for building, testing, and refining prototypes of new products or components. They work closely with engineers and designers to turn concepts into physical models, using various tools, materials, and fabrication techniques. Their work often involves troubleshooting, making modifications, documenting processes, and ensuring that prototypes meet design and safety standards. Prototype Techs play a crucial role in product development by helping identify potential issues before full-scale production.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a prototype tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Prototype Tech, you need strong mechanical aptitude, experience with fabrication processes, and a background in engineering technology or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software, CNC machines, 3D printers, and related prototyping tools is typically required, and certifications in manufacturing or machining are advantageous. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help you excel in building and refining prototypes. These competencies ensure accurate, efficient prototype development and successful collaboration with engineering teams.

What are some typical challenges a prototype tech may face when transitioning from design concepts to physical prototypes?

Prototype Techs often encounter challenges when translating digital designs into tangible prototypes, such as interpreting incomplete specifications, sourcing appropriate materials quickly, and troubleshooting unexpected technical issues during fabrication. The role requires adaptability and strong problem-solving skills to iterate and refine prototypes efficiently, often under tight deadlines. Effective communication with engineers and designers is essential to clarify requirements and ensure the final prototype meets functional expectations.

What is the difference between Prototype Tech vs Mechanical Engineer?

AspectPrototype Tech
CredentialsTypically requires technical certifications, associate degrees, or relevant technical training
Work EnvironmentHands-on, lab or workshop settings focused on building and testing prototypes
Industry UsageCommonly employed in manufacturing, product development, and R&D teams
Primary FocusCreating, assembling, and testing prototypes based on design specifications

Mechanical Engineers often hold a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, focus on design, analysis, and overseeing manufacturing processes. While Prototype Techs focus on hands-on prototype creation and testing, Mechanical Engineers are involved in the broader design and engineering process. Both roles are essential in product development but differ mainly in scope and responsibilities.

About the Role
As the Account Manager - Tech B2C at MrBeast, you are the operational anchor and commercial project manager for our B2C consumer tech partners. In this role, you bridge pre-sale research and proposal development with end-to-end post-sale execution.
You will collaborate on account intelligence and pitch presentations prior to close, transitioning seamlessly into end-to-end execution. Consumer tech partnerships offer exciting opportunities involving strict embargoes, cutting-edge prototype hardware, software and UI feature demonstrations, and high-visibility launch keynotes. You will keep these impactful campaigns organized, compliant, and flawlessly delivered across all stages of creation.
This role is based in Greenville, North Carolina, working in-office five days per week in close alignment with our creative teams, with New York City and Los Angeles also considered. Regardless of location, you will operate primarily on Eastern Standard Time (EST) with flexibility for key filming schedules, ensuring seamless collaboration across headquarters, deal flow, and campaign timelines.
What You'll Do
  • Campaign Lifecycle Management: Lead simultaneous campaign deliverables from contract execution through wrap reporting, ensuring every tech integration beat is delivered seamlessly and on time.
  • Hardware & Device Management: Oversee physical asset workflows for high-value pre-release devices and prototype tech sent to set, upholding secure chain-of-custody, inventory security, and NDA/embargo compliance.
  • Post-Production & UI/UX Coordination: Partner with edit teams to ensure device screens, software UI overlays, and feature demos align with brand guidelines and remain free of embargo leaks.
  • Legal & Disclosures Liaison: Collaborate with internal and client legal teams on software disclosures, feature claim verifications, and talent clearances.
  • On-Set Client Experience: Serve as the primary liaison for visiting client executives, creating exceptional, seamless experiences in fast-paced content environments.
  • Real-Time Technical Support: Ensure all set devices are configured, charged, updated with correct software builds, and ready for filming, resolving technical questions proactively.
  • Agile Integration: Adapt swiftly to active filming adjustments, ensuring key tech feature beats are preserved cleanly within narrative shifts.
  • Performance Analytics & Reporting: Track and analyze campaign data across Google Analytics, Viewstats, and YouTube Data APIs to highlight conversion success, feature engagement, and reach in wrap reports.
  • System Hygiene: Maintain clean data entry in CRM systems, keeping account records and asset archives audit-ready.
  • AI Integration: Leverage AI tools to automate device tracking documentation, wrap report generation, and meeting summaries.
  • Tech Account Intelligence: Conduct competitive analysis and market research on consumer hardware and software launch cycles, consumer trends, and rival tech ecosystems to support Sales Leadership.
  • Proposal & Pitch Development: Help build strategic proposal decks in Google Slides that translate technical product capabilities into digestible narrative integrations.
  • Pre-Sales Asset Library: Organize past consumer tech case studies, performance metrics, and pitch materials into a centralized asset library.

What We're Looking For
  • 8+ years of experience in account management, production operations, or campaign management in digital media or agency environments, with direct exposure to tech accounts.
  • Consumer Tech Familiarity: Understanding of hardware product lifecycles, software UI callouts, product embargoes, and enterprise tech marketing frameworks.
  • Robust Campaign Mechanics: Proven ability to manage complex project management workflows with 50+ deliverables.
  • Technical Toolkit: Expert proficiency in Google Slides and CRM systems, with working knowledge of Boostr, Google Analytics, and YouTube Analytics.
  • Operating Expectations: In-office five days per week in Greenville, NC preferred, or NYC/Los Angeles; flexibility for key weekend shoot dates; valid U.S. driver's license.

The target total compensation includes a fixed annual salary of $110,000 - $148,000, an employee equity plan grant, an annual bonus, plus comprehensive benefits.
Equity grants are issued in good faith, subject to company policies, board approval, and individual eligibility.
