Job description

Control Systems Engineer

Control Systems Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a Control Systems Engineer to design, implement, and commission industrial control systems that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing and process equipment. The role combines control system design, PLC/HMI programming, control cabinet layout, network configuration, and field commissioning. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, SCADA/HMI platforms, and strong electrical/mechanical integration skills.
Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and document control system architectures including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, I/O, and network topology to meet project requirements.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs (ControlLogix, SLC and other Allen-Bradley platforms) using Ladder Logic and structured text as required.
  • Develop and configure HMI/SCADA applications using FactoryTalk, Ignition, or equivalent platforms; integrate web gateways and remote access solutions.
  • Produce detailed control cabinet layouts and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD and SolidWorks; specify components and oversee panel fabrication.
  • Perform site installation, startup and commissioning of control systems, including I/O verification, loop checks, FAT/SAT support and acceptance testing.
  • Design and implement Ethernet networks, industrial communications, and cyber-secure remote access for control systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and project teams to ensure proper integration of automation systems, including power distribution considerations.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation, drawings, test plans, and operational procedures for systems and handover to operations.
  • Provide on-site and remote troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement recommendations to improve reliability and uptime.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians, coordinate with vendors and contractors, and provide training for operations staff on system use and maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, Robotics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in industrial control systems design, PLC/HMI programming, and field commissioning; experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and SLC strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Ladder Logic programming and PLC configuration; experience with ControlLogix, CompactLogix or similar platforms.
  • Experience configuring HMIs/SCADA such as FactoryTalk, Ignition or equivalent, and integrating web gateways for remote monitoring.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks for control cabinet layouts and mechanical integration.
  • Solid understanding of industrial Ethernet, network design, and fundamental cyber-security practices for control systems.
  • Practical knowledge of control cabinet construction, wiring practices, and power distribution for industrial equipment.
  • Scripting or programming experience in Python or Java for data integration, diagnostics, or custom tool development is a plus.
