We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Substation Designer to join our team at K&A Power Group in Oakbrook, IL. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Youll be part of a dynamic, people-focused team where your expertise, ideas, and contributions will be valued and celebrated.

Role Expectations:

  • Prepare physical layout drawings for substations and produce electrical plans and sections as well as grounding and conduit drawings.
  • Prepare bills of materials and review drawings and specifications.
  • Responsibilities will include the preparation of the following substation drawings:
  • Substation General Arrangement
  • Substation AIS design
  • Substation Electrical Equipment Plans
  • Substation Section Views (Elevations)
  • Substation Detailed Bill of Material
  • Substation Grounding Plan
  • Substation Conduit, Electrical Connection and Grounding Details
  • Substation Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plan
  • Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans and Section
  • Prepare protection & control (P&C) design drawings for substations, including one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Develop bills of material and review engineering drawings, specifications, and vendor documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Responsibilities will include preparing the following P&C-related substation drawings and documents:
  • Substation Protection & Control One-Line and Three-Line Diagrams
  • P&C Schematics (AC/DC)
  • Relay Panel Layouts and Wiring Diagrams
  • Control Building Layouts for P&C Equipment
  • Cable Schedules and Conduit/Cable Routing Plans
  • P&C Bill of Materials
  • Control Building Grounding, Lighting, and Auxiliary Systems Plans
  • Below-Grade Conduit/Raceway Plans for Control and Power Cables
  • Termination Diagrams and Connection Details for Yard Equipment

What were looking for:

  • Experience 7+ years experience in utility substation design
  • A 2 year associates degree in engineering technology or drafting is preferred
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Strong knowledge with Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel

Pay Range $90,000-120,000/year
