Location: Chicago IL
Job Type: Full-Time
Work Environment: 100% On-Site / Boots-on-the-Ground (Construction Sites)

Position Overview

We are seeking a field-based QA/QC Technician to support the construction of mission-critical data centers. This role is not a software or IT quality position. The successful candidate will work directly on active construction sites, performing hands-on inspections of workmanship, materials, and installations related to data center builds.

The QA/QC Technician will be responsible for verifying that construction activities meet project specifications, drawings, codes, and quality standards. This role requires daily presence in the field, close coordination with site leadership and trade partners, and the ability to identify construction issues early to prevent rework and schedule impacts.

This position is ideal for candidates with experience in construction QA/QC, inspections, or field engineering within data centers, electrical, mechanical, or large commercial construction environments.

Key Responsibilities

Field-Based Quality Inspections

  • Perform daily on-site inspections of construction activities, installed materials, and equipment related to data center infrastructure.
  • Inspect work performed by subcontractors and trade partners to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, codes, and project quality standards.
  • Verify installation quality for data center systems such as electrical, mechanical, structural, fire protection, and architectural components.

Construction Quality Compliance

  • Ensure construction activities adhere to QA/QC plans, inspection test plans (ITPs), and project-specific quality requirements.
  • Identify deficiencies, non-conformances, and workmanship issues, and work with site teams to ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Monitor construction sequencing to ensure quality is maintained throughout all phases of work.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Document inspection results through daily reports, punch lists, deficiency logs, and photographic records.
  • Track quality issues from identification through resolution and closeout.
  • Maintain accurate field records for audits, turnover documentation, and client reporting.

Collaboration with Site Leadership

  • Work closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, Field Engineers, and the QA/QC Lead.
  • Participate in site walks, coordination meetings, and quality reviews.
  • Support implementation of project QA/QC procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.

Implementation of QA/QC Program

  • Execute field inspections in accordance with the project’s QA/QC program.
  • Assist with inspections related to material deliveries, storage conditions, and installation readiness.
  • Ensure changes to construction methods or materials are reviewed for quality impact.

Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution

  • Proactively identify construction risks that may impact quality, safety, or schedule.
  • Assist in root cause analysis for quality issues and verify corrective actions.
  • Follow up to ensure rework meets project standards.

Safety & Site Compliance

  • Perform all work in compliance with site safety policies, OSHA requirements, and environmental regulations.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions observed during inspections.
  • Coordinate with site safety personnel as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Construction QA/QC or field inspection experience is required.
  • Background in commercial construction, industrial construction, or data center builds strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and inspection checklists.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods.
  • Comfortable working full-time on active construction sites.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify workmanship and installation issues.
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with data center construction or mission-critical facilities.
  • Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, or structural systems.
  • Experience supporting large-scale or fast-paced construction projects.
  • Exposure to QA/QC documentation systems or construction management software.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 2+ years of field-based QA/QC or construction inspection experience.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
