The Cy-Fair Fire Department is seeking a skilled and dependable
Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform preventative maintenance, repairs, renovations, and construction activities that support the department's stations, training facilities, and administrative buildings. This position plays a vital role in ensuring departmental facilities, building systems, and equipment remain safe, functional, and operational to support emergency services.
The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs a wide variety of skilled building maintenance duties, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, welding, and general facility repairs. This position also supports capital improvement projects, contractor coordination, preventative maintenance programs, and emergency facility response as needed. The Facilities Maintenance Technician is classified as a
full-time hourly non-exempt position.
Pay Rate:
Facilities Maintenance Technician: $30.75 per hour + $0.20 per year for longevity
Hourly Education Pay:
Associate's Degree: $.58
Bachelor's Degree: $.87
Master's/Doctorate Degree: $1.15
Schedule: 40-hour work week, Monday-Friday, with potential to remain on duty beyond scheduled hours including evenings and weekends, and emergency call-outs as required.
Annual Leave:
80 Hours Vacation* /80 Hours Sick / 80 Hours Holiday
*Vacation accrual increases based on years of service.

TCDRS 7% employee contribution, 14% employer contribution

Essential Job Functions
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with Department Standard Operating Guidelines, including Bulletins, Memos, Safety Guidelines, Personnel Handbook, and Chief's Orders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on department facilities, grounds, and building systems.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, welding, and general building components.
- Perform remodeling, renovation, and construction projects including framing, drywall, cabinetry, flooring, doors, windows, and finish work.
- Install, repair, and rekey locks, padlocks, and access control hardware.
- Monitor and maintain HVAC control systems and building automation equipment.
- Operate department vehicles, heavy equipment, power tools, and specialized maintenance equipment safely.
- Inspect facilities and equipment to identify maintenance needs and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with contractors, obtain project estimates, and assist with project oversight.
- Maintain maintenance records, work orders, inventories, and equipment documentation.
- Order materials, supplies, and equipment needed for maintenance projects.
- Assist with budgeting, facility improvement planning, and long-term maintenance initiatives.
- Support maintenance and construction of training facilities, props, department buildings, and grounds.
- Respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum one (1) year of maintenance, building trades, or construction experience.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Certifications:
- Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Current American Heart Association CPR certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Desired Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of commercial building maintenance, construction methods, and preventative maintenance practices.
- Experience performing plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, painting, welding, and general building repairs.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, and maintenance vehicles.
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, sketches, and technical specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and priorities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with department personnel, contractors, vendors, and outside agencies.
- Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with applicable building codes, regulations, and department policies.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Duties are performed in office, maintenance shop, construction, and outdoor environments.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, carrying, reaching, and manual dexterity are required.
- Requires the ability to climb ladders, work at elevated heights, access rooftops, and safely perform maintenance activities above ground level.
- Requires frequent lifting and carrying of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds and occasional heavier lifting with assistance.
- Exposure to noise, dust, smoke, grease, chemicals, electrical hazards, mechanical equipment, and varying weather conditions.
- May be required to respond after normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain the physical and mental fitness necessary to safely perform assigned duties.
