Property Accountant (Staff Accountant Real Estate)Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant (Staff Accountant) with experience in real estate accounting to join our growing finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential properties while ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards. This position requires a strong understanding of property accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Record journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments.
  • Reconcile tenant accounts, security deposits, CAM charges, and rental income.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Review and process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions related to assigned properties.
  • Prepare budget-to-actual variance reports and assist with annual budgeting.
  • Coordinate with property managers to resolve accounting discrepancies and provide financial support.
  • Assist with external audits and tax preparation by providing required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, including experience in real estate or property accounting.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Experience with property management/accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, RealPage, or similar systems is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
