Description JOB TITLE โ€“ Senior Property Accountant SCOPE & PURPOSE

Under the daily direction of the Controller, the Senior Property Accountant is responsible for assisting the accounting and financial reporting for multi-family properties, under the Supervisorโ€™s supervision. (S)he may be asked to perform other duties as assigned, as per their Supervisor and/or Director.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties & responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

  • Preparation of the monthly financial statement packages for clients. This work includes creating and posting journal entries recorded to the general ledger, fix asset depreciation and amortization schedules, in-depth review of general ledger and income statements, bank statements reconciliations, in-depth property manager variance comment review, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ensure internal and external reporting and audit deadlines are met.
  • Work with Property Management and provide in-depth analysis of the projectโ€™s financial performance.
  • Act as an internal and external customer service leader and assist the supervisor/manager with more complex issues.
  • Manage and review the cash of each project. Ensure critical timely payments of utilities, taxes, mortgages, and owner distributions.
  • Mentor and share knowledge with team members.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures, as well as maintain effective internal controls.
  • Work as a team player in evaluating and resolving discrepancies, as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of related accounting /reporting experience
  • BA/BS in Accounting or Business preferred.
  • Demonstrated quantitative analytical and accounting skills commensurate with experience level.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, as well as excellent listening skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and communication.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills.
  • Yardi and/or MRI intermediate experience a plus
  • Real estate industry experience is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task efficiently and independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact and relate effectively, productively, and positively with co-workers.
  • Dependable, punctual, and reliable, with a strong work ethic.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and accounting systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Involves work of a general office nature; typically includes extended periods of sitting and/or operation of a computer.
  • May involve periods of standing, such as operating at a copier/fax/scanner.
  • Involves movement between departments, floors, and properties to facilitate work.
  • Involves work such as conducting tours throughout the property/portfolio, usually performed by walking and/or climbing stairs.
