A Prop House job involves managing, organizing, and maintaining a collection of props used in film, television, theater, or events. Professionals in this role work closely with set designers and production teams to source, rent, or create props that fit a specific scene or style. Responsibilities can include cataloging inventory, repairing items, and coordinating logistics for deliveries and returns. Prop House employees must have a keen eye for detail, creativity, and strong organizational skills.
A typical day in a prop house involves cataloging props, preparing items for delivery to production sites, maintaining and repairing props, and helping designers select appropriate pieces for their projects. Staff often collaborate closely with art directors, set decorators, and buyers to fulfill specific requests and accommodate last-minute changes. The role can also include returning and reorganizing props after use, ensuring that everything remains in good condition and easily accessible. Working in a prop house requires flexibility and multitasking, as priorities can shift quickly based on production timelines.
To thrive in a prop house, staff members need strong organizational skills, knowledge of set design, and experience in inventory management or theatrical production. Familiarity with inventory tracking software, basic carpentry or fabrication tools, and safety certifications is often required. Attention to detail, creativity, and excellent communication are key soft skills for collaborating with designers and production teams. These skills ensure props are sourced, maintained, and delivered efficiently to meet the fast-paced demands of television, film, and theater productions.

Description
Every successful movement has one thing in common: a strong backbone that consists of people who work behind the scenes, off camera, and out of the limelight. These are the diligent workers without whom success is not truly possible. You may have seen a "Lettuce Lady" on TV or in your hometown, a vegan starter kit in a newsstand on the corner, or one of PETA's many creative and eye-catching demonstrations throughout the years. The inventory clerk is involved with all these things. As a vital member of the PETA Foundation, the inventory clerk will keep a costume-and-prop inventory of more than 1,200 items meticulously organized for PETA's International Grassroots Campaigns Department, making sure that the inventory report is up to date and helping PETA's cadre of campaigners get the costumes and props that they need on the road. Experience in shipping, receiving, and inventory keeping is very important, as your skills in all three areas will be put to the test while you keep the on-site and off-site storage at PETA's Sam Simon Center (the group's headquarters in Norfolk) in good shape. It almost goes without saying that this job will require quite a bit of heavy lifting, so you will need to be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis. If you want to be a part of the backbone of the organization that supports the largest animal rights group in the world, then please apply!
