ABOUT US: Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning parks and recreation agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational programs, classes, and events as well as facilities, parks and open spaces! Our Cultural Arts Department is home to our outstanding theatre program which hosts various productions throughout the year.


JOB SUMMARY: The Costume and Props Designer is responsible for executing the construction of costumes, from patternmaking to sewing and fitting, ensuring a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. They are also responsible for designing and making/finding of props. The Costume and Props Designer will collaborate with the director and production team to conceptualize and create costumes and props that enhance the characters and storytelling. They will identify and source fabrics, accessories, and other materials needed for costume and prop construction while adhering to budget constraints. The Costume and Prop Designer will conduct fittings with actors, making necessary alterations to achieve the perfect fit and aesthetic as envisioned. They will also effectively manage time to meet deadlines and ensure costumes and props are ready for dress rehearsals and performances.


LOCATION: Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg


QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred applicant will have proven experience in costume and prop design and construction for theatrical productions. Proficiency in patternmaking, sewing, and costume construction techniques. Strong creative and artistic skills with a keen understanding of how costumes and props contribute to character development. Dependable industry professional with excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work within budget constraints and adapt designs based on practical considerations. Passion for the performing arts and a commitment to bringing characters to life through costume.


SCHEDULING & PAY: This is a part-time position with flexible hours depending on performance schedules (some evenings and weekends will be required). Pay rate is $18.00-$20.00 per hour depending on qualifications. Production begins mid-September with shows in early December.
