Job description

As the Director of Engineering, you will lead the organization responsible for delivering seamless, secure, and frictionless consumer experiences for CLEAR's members. You will own the platforms powering membership, identity proofing and biometrics-driving strategy, execution, and operational excellence at scale.

What you'll do:

  • Define and execute the technical strategy and roadmap for CLEAR's member-facing platforms, including membership, identity proofing and biometrics
  • Lead and develop a team of Engineering Managers and senior ICs, building a high-performing organization focused on growth, accountability, and impact
  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Security, and Engineering leadership to align on priorities, architecture, and delivery of secure, scalable solutions
  • Own vendor strategy and integrations across our CRM ensuring cost efficiency, reliability, and scalability
  • Establish and uphold engineering standards, driving best practices in system design, reliability, observability, and operational excellence

How you'll measure success:

  • Platform reliability and performance, including uptime, latency, and scalability of member-facing systems
  • Delivery against roadmap commitments and successful execution of strategic platform initiatives
  • Cost optimization and efficiency across vendor platforms and infrastructure
  • Strength and growth of the engineering organization, including retention, engagement, and leadership development
  • Adoption of engineering best practices and measurable improvements in system quality and operational excellence

What you're great at:

  • 4+ years of leading and scaling engineering organizations, managing managers and teams of 20+ engineers
  • Driving large-scale platform initiatives such as system re-architecture, vendor migrations, or multi-tenant platform development
  • Setting a high bar for engineering excellence through strong technical judgment and organizational leadership
  • Building and sustaining high-performance teams with a focus on accountability and continuous improvement
  • Operating with ownership and delivering measurable outcomes in fast-paced, complex environments

The total compensation range for this role is $435,000-$535,000 depending on levels of skills and experience.

This range represents the combined base salary, annual bonus incentive, and new hire equity package (in Restricted Stock Units) for this position at CLEAR. Additionally, this role will be eligible for refresh equity grants as part of our ongoing compensation program. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including, but not limited to, location, education, skills, experience, and performance. All stock based compensation will be subject to the terms and conditions of applicable agreements.
