Veteran Benefits Guide is seeking an innovative and technically skilled Prompt Engineer II to design, develop, and optimize AI-powered solutions that improve business operations, employee productivity, and customer experiences.
In this role, you will work closely with business stakeholders, product managers, and engineering teams to identify opportunities for AI adoption and build intelligent solutions using large language models, generative AI technologies, and emerging AI tools. What You'll Do
AI Solution Design and Development
  • Design, test, and optimize prompts for large language models and generative AI applications.
  • Develop AI-powered workflows, assistants, agents, and automation solutions that support business goals.
  • Translate business requirements into effective AI solutions and prompt frameworks.
  • Improve AI output quality, accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
  • Build and maintain reusable prompt libraries, templates, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate AI capabilities into existing applications and systems.

AI Workflow and Agent Development
  • Design, build, and maintain AI-powered agents and workflow automations that support business operations.
  • Integrate AI solutions with internal systems, APIs, knowledge repositories, and business applications.
  • Develop multi-step AI workflows that automate tasks, improve efficiency, and enhance user experiences.
  • Evaluate and optimize agent performance, reliability, and business impact.

AI Optimization and Evaluation

What We're Looking For
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in AI, generative AI, prompt engineering, AI solution development, or a related role.
  • Demonstrated experience creating, testing, and optimizing prompts for large language models.
  • Experience designing and optimizing AI-powered workflows, agents, and multi-step automations.
  • Experience developing agent-based solutions for reasoning, task execution, data retrieval, and workflow automation.
  • Hands-on experience with AI platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Meta Llama, Amazon Bedrock, or similar technologies.
  • Experience evaluating AI performance, refining outputs, and improving prompt effectiveness.
  • Strong understanding of prompt engineering techniques, model behavior, context management, and output optimization.
  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, vector databases, and AI evaluation methodologies.
  • Familiarity with APIs, JSON, integrations, and AI development platforms.
  • Experience orchestrating LLMs with external tools, APIs, knowledge bases, and business systems.
  • Familiarity with agent frameworks and orchestration tools such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, OpenAI Assistants, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Amazon Bedrock, or similar technologies.
  • Understanding of AI governance, prompt security, model limitations, and responsible AI practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate business needs into practical AI solutions.
  • Experience with AWS AI services, OpenAI APIs, Anthropic APIs, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare, benefits administration, or regulated industries is a plus.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent work experience will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience building or implementing AI-powered solutions in a business environment.
